Wow, a chocolate beer that tastes like chocolate? Sadly, most donít. Rogue has really outdone themselves with their double chocolate stout. It captures the chocolate liquor flavor and bittersweet chocolate aroma amazingly well. Appearance is inviting with a chocolate color and dark tan head. Palate is very full and smooth with a thin, wet finish. Taste is mildly sweet, lots of chocolate liquor and a moderately bitter hops finish. Overall, this is one amazing beer. I would prefer a tad sweeter, as I like to drink it alone for dessert. Still, one of the best beers Iíve had considering that it delivers what others beers have promised but fallen short of before (ommegang chocolate indulgence, iím looking at you).

Loads of chocolate, the 50 IBU seems a low, this seemed more, the bitterness became more apparent as the softness and sugary chocolate front became less. I would liked to have had more middle in this, more body. I though the finish was more towards sour than I would also have liked, but I am being picky this is a great beer.

Draft at Eulogy. Nearly opaque black brown pour that shows clear around the edges. Tuft of khaki foam up top. Dark chocolate syrup. Liquorice cigars. Coffee cocoa butter. Feels like comfort food.

Great beer. Definitely taste the chocolate. Pitch black in color, smell chocolate and toffee, dark chocolate in taste, minimal tan head and no lacing

Look: pours a dark black. A dark brown sugar head. Not oily at all. Smell: heavy chocolate. Sweet fruits. Vanilla. Taste: bitter chocolate. Vanilla. Bitter coffee. Coconut. Feel: very dry. Leaves a thin film on the mouth. Overall: ok beer. Looking for more of a candy flavor than the bitterness and dryness with a name like double chocolate. First drank: home 11/8/14

On tap at le sur mesure in Nantes. Black color with small head. Medium to full body and medium carbonation. Taste a bit of alcohol. But still very easy to drink and with a creamy texture. Very good

2013 bottle. Very dark brown with dark tan head. Aroma is chocolate chip cookie and tobacco. Taste is bakers chocolate, tobacco, and Hershey's chocolate syrup and some dark malt. Medium-full mouthfeel. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Very dark, finger of khaki head. Smells of milk chocolate, cocoa, a little coffee, a little cookie dough as well. Taste is very chocolatey as expected, bakers chocolate, a roasted hop, a little coffee, tobacco. It's what you expect in a beer called double chocolate and it's done well. Very much a dessert in a bottle. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap poured into a sampler. The aroma is rich, sweet chocolate candy bar with some turtle candy qualities. The rich, dark, opaque brown beer is topped with a thick, tan, soapy ring. A ver6 light surface speckling is retainedand a light lace is left on the glass. The taste is highly sugar sweet with a medium chocolate bitter. The slick, viscous, and full malt body beer has a light, creamy, soft carbonation. The flavor is full of chocolate - lots of chocolate with a touch of alcohol warmth. Itís a bit dry with a surprisingly clean aftertaste.
