Wow, a chocolate beer that tastes like chocolate? Sadly, most don’t. Rogue has really outdone themselves with their double chocolate stout. It captures the chocolate liquor flavor and bittersweet chocolate aroma amazingly well. Appearance is inviting with a chocolate color and dark tan head. Palate is very full and smooth with a thin, wet finish. Taste is mildly sweet, lots of chocolate liquor and a moderately bitter hops finish. Overall, this is one amazing beer. I would prefer a tad sweeter, as I like to drink it alone for dessert. Still, one of the best beers I’ve had considering that it delivers what others beers have promised but fallen short of before (ommegang chocolate indulgence, i’m looking at you).

[24/12/15] Bottle from Happy Valley Supermarket in Portland, OR: Dark brown body with big head. Nose is malty, chocolate, caramel and vanilla. Taste is toasty up front, with chocolate and nice spices. Very creamy texture. Good coffee all around. Nice one.

Pours dark and rich looking with a fluffy head. The red bottle is a nice touch too. This beer looks like an imperial stout should. Aroma of sweet milk chocolate and coconut. Tastes like eating a melted chocolate bar with some malt. Very rich and creamy in the mouth. Not an everyday drinking beer but if you are looking for a delicious glass of desert this is the ticket.

Very dark beer, great colored tan head.. not copious, but a thin layer of foamy goodness. The smell is heavenly milk chocolate. Taste is strong of chocolate, some malt.. some bitter hops on the back-end. A little thinner than I thought. It’s super.

Bottle. Pours a pitch black beer with a big tanned head on top. Aroma has molasses, chocolate, sugar and booze. Flavor is sweet, some bitter chocolate notes, dark chocolate, light coffee and roasty notes. More complexity than I’d expected of this, which is good of course. Mellow carbonation, slight sticky mouthfeel and long, sweet cloying finish. Nice stuff.

750ml bottle, thanks Craig! Rich roasted malt aroma with big notes of chocolate as well as hints of coffee and vanilla. Pours extremely dark brown with a large mocha brown head that has excellent retention and good lacing. Starts with rich roasted malt flavors as well as chocolate and bit of vanilla to go with a rich body and nice mouthfeel. Finishes very smooth with the chocolate coming through more with slight notes of coffee. Wonderful stout!
