4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: MAR 24, 2015 Bottle at Monks many times. July 2012. Pours a dark ruby brown. No head just a playful foam. Deep, thick and wonderful. Liquid raisins. Molasses. Bourbon barrel flavors. Melts on the tongue and slides down the throat. Despite the rich thickness it finishes perfectly smooth. Perfection. Warm caramel apple. Vanilla bourbon. Smooth like a well aged whisky. My favorite brew out of Dogfish Head. Not scared to give it one of my highest ratings. Tremendous! UPDATE: Now finding on draft for the first time. Feels fresher, fruitier, and less complex than the bottle version I prefer. Interestingly the high ABV reads to me as a peppery hop bite, not high alcohol. It still packs a punch though after sipping this for 20 minutes. I like it a lot but would probably rate it around a 3.9 - though I will leave my higher rating up for my previous bottle experiences!

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
12oz bottle poured into a tulip. Sweet chocolate and cherry aromas come off the beer with a boozy warmth. As it settles out, raisin aromas and a light port wine become prevalent en route to a final note of woody cherry with toffee. The pour is thick, and dark, but an oily clear cola brown hue with a dense brown head that retains a moderate ring, wispy surface, and leaves some runny lace. The taste is a medium high sweet with a supporting medium bitter and secondary notes of light sour and light umami. The texture is thick and chewy with lots of fizzy carbonation and a full body with flavors of dark, dry fruit, wood, light spice, and a roast-like character that develops as the glass warms along with a cooked brown sugar note. The finish is a boozy warmth with wood and clean spice that leaves an aftertaste thatís dry and clean; spicy with a lingering smokey, dark chocolate and a cloying, dark, tart fruit thatís lightly astringent.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
2014 edition. Pours hazy copper-amber color, with a small and thin-but-creamy bone-colored head. Aromas of raisin and caramel, perhaps a touch of wood. Full body. Syrupy-thick, with a lingering astringent tingle to the finish. Flavor has notes of nutty and caramel malts, with a touch of booziness. A note of raisin lingers in the finish. Good while still "young", looking forward to aging one or two.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Light-brown, deep-amber when backlit. A cm of tan head that fades moderate to quick. Aroma is banana, caramel, brown sugar, caramelized raisins, touch of lactose. Body is medium weight, syrupy, moderately starchy, medium-light carbonation, light burn. Flavor is spicy yeast, light phenols, sweet (light caramel), hints of drying grasses, very boozy, but in a pleasant way. A delightful sipper. Highlight is the spicy-sweet flavor. A well-done high-abv by Dogfishead. Better than the 120-minute and fort. Up there with the world-wide stout, perhaps better.

3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Rich dark fruit aroma with light notes of caramel and booze. Pours dark brown with a ruby hue, an extremely thin white head and no lacing. Starts with a lot of dark fruit flavor, raisin-like with maybe a small amount of caramel. Finishes fairly smooth at first with the fruit still there, but ends with a lot of booze that lingers on the palate like some liquors. Good, but the alcohol burn at the end is not enjoyable.
