UPDATED: MAR 24, 2015 Bottle at Monks many times. July 2012. Pours a dark ruby brown. No head just a playful foam. Deep, thick and wonderful. Liquid raisins. Molasses. Bourbon barrel flavors. Melts on the tongue and slides down the throat. Despite the rich thickness it finishes perfectly smooth. Perfection. Warm caramel apple. Vanilla bourbon. Smooth like a well aged whisky. My favorite brew out of Dogfish Head. Not scared to give it one of my highest ratings. Tremendous! UPDATE: Now finding on draft for the first time. Feels fresher, fruitier, and less complex than the bottle version I prefer. Interestingly the high ABV reads to me as a peppery hop bite, not high alcohol. It still packs a punch though after sipping this for 20 minutes. I like it a lot but would probably rate it around a 3.9 - though I will leave my higher rating up for my previous bottle experiences!

Bottle. Rich dark fruit aroma with light notes of caramel and booze. Pours dark brown with a ruby hue, an extremely thin white head and no lacing. Starts with a lot of dark fruit flavor, raisin-like with maybe a small amount of caramel. Finishes fairly smooth at first with the fruit still there, but ends with a lot of booze that lingers on the palate like some liquors. Good, but the alcohol burn at the end is not enjoyable.

Aroma of malt, raisin and fig. Belgian yeast, sweet finish but not overly sweet. Quite nice and balanced for how strong it is. Lots of flavor and complex. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

3/16/2015. 12 oz. bottle. Red brown with a thin tan head. Sweet aromas of dried fruit. A significant alcohol burn, raisins, molasses, honey and malt. A little too hot for me.

Pours a murky brown with not much head. Sooo much raisin in the nose. This beer is a definite sipper. Heavy dark fruit presence and the alcohol is there, and at 18%, that’s not surprising. Solid offering, and definitely what I would call a "meal beer".

(12 onces. Vintage 2014.)

Slight tan bubbles. No lacing. Caramel and date aroma. Boozy caramel taste with dark stone fruit.

Solid dark opaque color. Thick aroma of figs, raisins, yeast, bread, spice and booze. Flavor is a god balance of booze and dark fruits. Tastes a little like a fire, roasted and warm. Good earthy presence as well. Alcohol does NOT feel like 18.5.

Pours a dark ruby red, with a thin off-white head that stays long. Sparse lacing. Nose is intense boozy dried fruits and taffy. Taste is boozy and sweet, but there’s a nice bitter undercurrent that carries through to the aftertaste. Very nice, nuanced brew! I’m a fan.

Bottle pour at home, thanks Andrew for shearing. dark red wine pour, smells of brandy, surprisingly smooth beer for how it smells, sharp taste of raison right off the bat with a little plum, taste barrel aged but its not, and probably would be even better if it was. but still solid.
