COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our first release of the embodiment of good versus evil in a barrel-aged blend. Part bourbon barreled The Serpent’s Stout, and part brandy barreled The Angel’s Share, this is our most anticipated release of the summer.

dark pour with perfect one finger caramel head. Lots of bourbon and brandy sweetness on the nose. Surprisingly smooth mouthfeel, sort of a brandy start, with bourbon carrying it all the way to the finish, and some residual alcohol burn as it goes down.  Solid coffee aftertaste. As the beer warms, the coffee becomes a bit more pronounced, an the brandy sweetness does as well, there’s a lot going on with this beer. All around impressive beer.

Bottle from Smokes n Suds. A reassuring pop of the cork before pouring a very dark brown, thin brown cap. The nose is rich, bourbon and chocolate malt. Lightly sweet, but also oak and char. The taste is also rich, a little more emphasis on the bourbon and chocolate malt. Less smoke/char and a bit of bittersweet. Rounded edges. On the downside it’s a bit thin... Finishes with a very soothing bourbon and chocolate note.

Nocturne (888) - Cheshire, ENGLAND - DEC 25, 2014
375ml bottle. Black and pretty headless. Just a thin coating of brown foam. Bourbon hits the nose first. Lots of dark fruits in there. Vanilla too. Something like buttery, maple-drenched pancakes as well (guessing the brandy). Taste is pretty sweet (to be expected) and a step down from the aroma but still has a nice dark fruit complexity and some heat on the backend. This is worth its high rating.

1000th review!!!!!. 12.7 oz bottle poured into my Lost Abbey long stem snifter. Pour jet black with a half finger khaki head which fade to nice lacing on the edge and nice legs as you drink it. Aroma is of dark fruits, brandy, molasses, roasted malts, espresso, bourbon, sweet malts, burnt malts, woody notes, coffee, and some light booze has it warms. Taste is brandied soaked dark fruits, brandy, roasted malts, woody bourbon, licorice, molasses, burnt sweet malts, espresso, dark chocolate, anise, and some very light booze has it warms. Has a medium-full body with a creamy, oily mouthfeel, and a mostly sweet, lingering, slightly warming, mouth coasting, long, lingering finish. Overall, a true amazing, world class beer that is defiantly worthy of being my 1000th review.

Bottle, shared with Sean. Brown pour, no head. Nose is big whiskey notes, bourbon, oak, coffee, milk chocolate and touches of booze. Flavour is intense woody, bourbon sapped chocolate and coffee with a huge bang of booze to set things off. Surprisingly medium in body, little carbonation. Oh so complex in the finish. Amazing stuff.

Bottle from a US trade. Pours black with a small tanned head. Aroma of dark malts, molasse, brandy and liquoric, inviting. Smooth, thick oily and creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonated. Taste is complex dark rich malty, well integrated light burning alcohol, traces of tar and liquorice, a beer to enjoy for a long time as Im doing right now in front of the fireplace.

UPDATED: DEC 21, 2014 375cl bottle served in a snifter. Pours dark brown in the pour but once in the glass is pitch black with a hint of garnet around the edge when held up to light. Aroma is massively powerful concoction of bourbon, buttery vanilla, barrel, dark fruits and massive burnt malt. Taste is toasted fruit cake drenched in bourbon and brandy then covered in 65% coca chocolate. Sweetness is quite upfront however the rest of the beer is so powerful it balances itself out as to not be sickly. Moderate bitterness and the creamiest mouthfeel ever with no carbonation to speak of.

anstei (38) - SWITZERLAND - DEC 10, 2014
12.7oz bottle from Erzbierschof. Pours pitch black with no head. It’s strong, intense and complex, but lacks the balance that I need to enjoy a beer that powerful.

May 4th, 2013 - We’re at the halfway point here in what is easily the most luxurious, intense and flavor dense beer party I’ve ever been to. Lost Abbey has taken out all the stops, and as I move from beer to beer I make an effort to go darker and darker. This strategy leads me to the Lost Abbey Deliverance, a deep, dark brew with a cratered head of muddy brown foam. Alcohol, licorice and molasses blend with all-spice, cardamon and soy in the nose, and the boozy nature of this beast appears in the flavor too. There I catch some bourbon flavor on a flat palate, leaving the alcohol not too sharp or cutting. There’s a low, oozing sugar too, with licorice, and a mostly sweet touch of brown sugar, vanilla, soy sauce and all spice. Even with a flatter mouthfeel this is an intense beer - in your face and somewhat extreme, and not at all elegant.

Fantastiskt gott!

UPDATED: DEC 7, 2014 Live draft at SB which means Special Brews. Out of the 3 BA big beers in front of me this is the best, which apparently doesn’t say much. Still too much alcohol and barrel, overly big beer. Autolysis underneath that as well, boo. However, this is in the standard over-the-top, big beer category and I know some people like that. At least not bitter hops and alcohol is just bad as opposed to insane rubbing alcohol (i.e., another beer in front of me). Its seems like this beer needs more Serpent Stout and less Angel’s Share. Its like no matter what you do to Angel’s Share it still fucks up the beer.
