4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 BobbyAnalog (210) - San Diego, USA - AUG 27, 2011
A battering ram of black licorice flavor catapults this stout into complexity heaven. If we’re to draw up the math of this beer, on a chalkboard of sorts, we would see hints of coconut milk, loads of charred oak, and a cupboard full of bagged baking chocolate. This also tastes strongly of ouzo. Huzzah!

Bottled@Beer Hunters, Pori. Quite pitch black colour, small brown head. Aroma is anise, liquorice, raisins, mild toasted sweet notes too. Flavour is big time liquorice, mild toasted notes. A bit thin palate, though big time in flavour.

Deep black color with a thin brown head. Very strong flavor of anise with some roasted malt. The flavor is very strong on the anise, too strong, there’s some roasted malt and sweetness, but it’s hard to cut through the anise....

Approx 8 month old bottle from cellar, not sure where I bought this. Deep brown-black, oily pour with a short brown head leaving moderate, spotty lacing. Nose is anise and chocolate, with a bit of cured meat. Heavy body with moderate, sharp carbonation. Anise, chocolate, coffee, caramel and some pine hops. Finish is long, bitter and sweet, with a chocolatey, licorice aftertaste. One of my favorite RISs in small amounts, would be tough to drink more than 8-10 oz. as it’s very rich.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 savnac (1482) - Anchorage, Alaska, USA - MAY 21, 2012
22 oz bottle. Pour is thick and black with a rocky tan head. Aroma is dominate liquorice/anise with some rotten cabbage and a faint smell of the base beer. Flavor is overwhelming with raw anise and awful yeast phenolics, oh yeah, light taste of the normally spectacular base beer. Why they did this to such a great beer, I’ll never know. Way too much anise aroma/flavor and their Belgian yeast completely ruined this beer.

Bottle shared in courtesy of daje, thanks man
Black, laced brown head. Smells of blue cheese, salmiac liquorice, anise and some malts. Medium to heavy sweet, very malty, but the anise and salmiac liquorice rules this beer. Quite oily feel, full body and soft carbonatin. Totally : a very special and different beer, it’s not a normal imperial stout at all. but it’s really good, and the flavors and aromas are just insane. A brave bold craft brew

Bottle, pours a pitch black body with a thick, dark brown head. Aroma of belgian yeasts, cocoa/chocolate, roasted malts, and salty black licorice. Taste is similar, with the anise/licorice and roasted malts being more dominant than in the aroma. Nice smooth mouthfeel. Nice lingering finish of bitter roasted malts and cocoa. The anise tends to dominate as it warms.

22oz bomber poured into a Karmaliet tulip glass. Pours pitch black with a mocha colored head and no lacing. The aroma is Belgian yeast, dark stone fruit, and a hint of anise. For a 10% ABV beer this is very smooth.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 mcmisko (276) - New York, USA - MAY 2, 2012
Pours black with a tiny brown head that disappears quickly. Smells interesting, toasted malts, cocoa, wood and licorice. Taste is also interesting and complex with lots of balance and not very dominate flavors coming out. Notes of cocoa, coffee, subdued oak, anise, and spearmint. Full bodied. After taste has dark roasted bitter flavors and chalky mouth feel. Interesting stout, but not risky or strange.

22 oz bomber pours a dark black color with a medium a tan head. Aromas of licorice, roasted malt sugar. Full bodied, licorice dominates, a little to cough syrupy for my taste. Unique
