4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Cigar City José Martí is one of my favorite porters. Aroma is of oak chocolate flavors. Pour is dark and perfect with a nice thick head. The original note on taste is that of a cigar humidor with lesser chocolate flavors. Taste can come across somewhat variable - sometimes bitter and other times balanced. José Martí is one good porter!

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
At home on a Friday before heading out to a pool party. Pours black with big foamy grey head. Aroma is dark chocolates, nice bourbon-like alcohol note, lightly roasted malted barley, slight raspberry fruit note that come from the sweet aero writ edge to the beer. Mouthfeel is soft and creamy, like whipped cream that disappears when it hits your tongue. Taste is soft dark chocolate, more of that raspberry sweetness, a little marshmallow, heavy malt notes, with a thin body. Finish is long, the malty dark chocolate note sits on the pallet. A very nice stout-like porter at 8%. Would bang again.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Ridiculously rich, chewy, chocolatey brown coloured body with a thick, three centimetre tall deep brown head and only the slightest bit of light coming through when held up to a light, around 95% opaque. Aroma of rich milk, chocolate, coffee, cherries, vanilla, oak and tons of caramelised sugars. Full-bodied; Very rich chocolate and roasted malt flavours with a deep milky and caramel finish showing some oak and dryness at the tail end. Aftertaste shows a good complexity with some alcohol, hops, cherries and more vanilla coming through - nice and deep. Overall, a very good porter with some deep flavours and a very nicely layered flavour. This one shines through and regardless of the label on the front, it’s quite simply a very good beer, and i’m glad I brought it home with me! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Knightly Spirits (Orange Blossom) on 31-December-2013 for US$1.99 sampled at home in Washington on 04-April-2014.

4.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
UPDATED: MAR 23, 2014 This is one of my top 3 favorite Cigar City beers. It’s always available and tasty. Pours dark brown with average thickness for a porter. It’s minimally hopped with more toasted/smoky flavor, average/light carbonation with a relatively dry finish.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Nearly black, 3 finger dark brown head. Chocolate and roast in the nose. Flavor follows, chocolate, medium roast. More of a stout than a porter. Good stuff.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
12 oz. bottle produced on 11.27.13 (three months old). This is really unique and tasty brew. Very well balanced coffee/cocoa flavours with citrus hoppiness., Both elements come through on the nose as well. When I read "robustly hopped American porter" on the bottle I was a bit skeptical about the combination, but Cigar City has really done something lovely here. Reminiscent some some black IPA I’ve had, but the porter notes really come through. I find that the early sips taste more porter like, but by the end of the glass the roasted malt flavours fade and the hops stand out more. It’s like drinking two beers in one glass!

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
12oz bottle. Aroma is hoppy and dark malt. Appearance is a very dark brown with some tan head. Taste is super hoppy with some dark malt. There is also an earthy wooden taste at the end. Palate is very dry and hoppy. Overall, a decent beer. A little too much going on that really doesn't as well as it should. More if a black IPA than a porter.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Taster at RBWG 2014 grand tasting - thanks to the person who shared this! From a styrofoam cup... Lost my Sierra Nevada taster glass... 12oz bottle. Dark brown, thin khaki color. Dots and ropes of lace. Nice coffee, robust aroma, dark fruit, hint of dark chocolate. Good near black color. Lighter khaki head, with respectable retention. Good lace. Moderate sweet, light bitter taste, light hint of the alcohol. Smooth, chewy, lighter carbonation. Bigger body. More dry finish. Lighter carbonation. Good chewiness. Nice imperial porter. Maybe just a light hint of tartness.
