On Tap at grünerløkka brygghus. Pours pitch black with a creamy tan head. nose is rich, irish coffee, rum cake, chocolate, dark chocolate covered coffee beans, vanilla, bourbon, everything thats good in life. taste is rich chocolaty, with some roasted highlights. marzipan, chocolate covered cherry cookies, well balanced, an absolute knock out, not too heavy, intensely flavored. I haven’t rated a beer in a long time, but this beer sort of makes you want to stand on a mountaintop and scream how good it is.

50 cl bottle @ home. Batch #312: brewed on 17.09.2010. Rated on 28.01.2011
Lots and lots of foam from the bottle, enough to fill two glasses. Aroma reminds me of islay whisky blended with water. It has some smoke and peat. Flavour is stale with ash, wet wood and hints of smoke. Also some house flavour from HB – which is the best part of it. Probably a bad bottle.

It’s pitch black with a creamy head. The aroma has notes of licorice, light smoke, roasted malt and coffee. The sweet flavor has notes of roasted malt, licorice, dark fruit, light smoke and coffee, it’s really, really nice.

(500 ml (batch 384) from McKean and Charles) Pours very dark brown with a very ample tan head. Aroma of sweet dark chocolate, a bit like chocolate syrup, and other malty sweetness. Mouthfeel smooth and fine. Flavor of dark sweet chocolate, perhaps sweet, light cherry fruitiness. Rich and malty. ABV very well-integrated. Yummy.

Bottle 50 cl from erzbierschof.ch. Black beer, nice tan and fine foam, drawing little the glass. Aromas of coffee, chocolate, licorice, spices, indian ink, smoked. The taste is roasted of coffee-choc, roundind of spices and licorice, with notes of date, dry fruit, juniper, raisin, smoked and vanilla. Good acidity which helps to bear the consistency. Nice Christmas beer but It will not help to digest the turkey.
