COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Originally Beer Camp #29 from 06/2010. Brewed by Chris and Joe DeCicco, in conjunction with Sierra Nevada’s Beer Camp, an American Double IPA that is as formidable as its Sci-Fi monster namesake. Ghidorah is golden-amber in color, with a pronounced hop-forward presence. Grassy, resinous, and citrus peel dominate the aroma. It has significant malt body, which adds balance to the beer, but the malt quickly subsides toward a firm bitter finish.

Pours copper-orange, big, persistent head. Big, sweet marmalade-y malty body. Overall, the best thing I can say about this beer is it is beautifully balanced, hiding its 8.5% ABV masterfully. Stylistically, I could use more framing hops and bittering hops on the finish. But at $4.99 for 24 ounces a great beer at a great value.

22oz bottle pours a golden color with a lot of frothy head. This was the 2014 Beer Camp Across America version. Nice mil hop profile though some strong bitterness lingering after. More sweet that typical for style.

Dark golden burgundy with a formidable ivory cap. Skunky, grassy, pithy, caramel-filled nose. Way to malty for the style. Hints of candied grapefruit somewhere in there but this one was a miss.

Bottle code: 108921708 (around Mar 25, 2011) A: Pours an apricot ale with a bit of haze. A single finger of peanut foam falls in a couple minutes to a sheet of the same. Cobweb lacing. S: Alcohol up front, then sweet peaches, light citrus, pineapple, some tea notes. Malt is sweet and crystal. Mildly appealing. T: Warm and bitter. The alcohol here plays a big part and creates quite a bit of a role in accentuating the hops which are bitter and resiny. Some fruits are in here, boldly dominated by pineapple flavors. there are hints of chemical tastes as well. M: Thin with hi carbonation. Dry finish. Disappointing feel here. O: This beer has the makings of what could be a really good beer, unfortunately, they didn’t really work all the kinks out to make sure this one was up to SN’s standards. I’d take a torpedo over this any day, but this is still a decent double IPA. Very piney, some resin and orange.

Bottle from BevMo: Created a firm layer of frothy foamed head while the liquid was a dense and slightly hazy golden blonde. As for the aroma, there wasn’t a whole lot to be smelled other than some light floral hops that barely came through, but other than the aroma was to faint. The flavor is much bolder in its delivery by serving up a thick syrupy base of malts as well as an earthy yet floral combination of hop pellets that have some bitter and metallic attributes. However, this isn’t as impressing considering that this was a double IPA and the fact that Sierra Nevada has done a lot better in terms of crafting IPA’s that are more balanced and have been rounded out thoroughly.

This is a good brew. Nice hop, pine citrus. The finish was grassy. I liked the blend.
