750 mL capped bottle, Batch 559, Bottled 7-22-10, sampled 10-22-10: hazed gold with a wonderful, thick, tightly bubbled ivory head. The 2 inch foam gives a fantastic beer mustache. Lemon-honey sweetness in the aroma with underlying soft citrus notes along with strawberries, pineapple, sun-blazed hay. Dry, barnyard(y) flavour profile with sour, dusty limestone notes and lingering bitter honeycomb accents. Butterscotch belches ensue. Perfect, tingling, tight bubbled palate. It is for beers like this that I drink...the dry, sourness of a gueuze and the fruity (non-artificial) sweetness of a saison! Awesome! Thanks to the folks in Dexter, you make truly delicious, World Class beers!

bottle with a bigtime thanks to kan for sending this my way. excited to try this. drinking this the day after dexter got hit by some sort of funnel cloud. nose has notes of floral, hibiscus, earthy grass, and JP typical fruity peppery yeast. taste is lemongrass, pepper, spice, light toast and dough. real nice. not much pumpkin or kale to speak of. light green tea presence if you ponder it. pretty nice stuff. earthy, complex, spicy saison sour beer.

750 ml bottle; super cloudy orange with slight whore head; funky lemon rind, dry malt, sweet orange and grapefruit; definitely on the sweet side with spritzy orange peel, white sugar, sweet squash; drinks with a creamy vegi quality; drinks dry with a yummy creamed squash; has a nutty, dry vegi quality to it; low on the pepper but plenty of vegi sweetness; yum!!

Big thanks to craytonic for opening up this bottle. Served in a Tripel Karmeliet glass. Pours peach with a good white head. Faint lacing and a bit of a collar on the way down. The nose carries a bit of light spice and very mild funk. A bit of citrus in there as well. Fairly restrained and not quite in your face like some Jolly Pumpkin offerings. Nice and balanced. Flavor has a bit of light spice plus some citrus. Light earthiness and straw. Light body with a dry finish. Very nice.

Appearance: deep gold, with floating brown flecks and a two-finger white head slowly shrinking. Aroma: strong aroma of orange pulp, melons, some earthy spices and a little pineapple over some traditional saison must. Taste: very tart up front, with a puckering citrus blast, followed by a bit of light crackery sweetness; the spice of green tea and peppercorns are there, but subtle. Finish: extremely dry, with the tart/sour notes remaining over a bit of barnyard funk. Notes: It’s like a sour patch kid or sweet tart candy. Very drinkable palate, but the tartness prohibits gulping. Batch 559, bottled on 22 July 2010, had it on 26 November 2011.

In short: A semi-funky, super-tart and super-dry blonde ale. Intense, original and oh so good.

The look: Cloudy peach color body topped by a small white head
In long: The strong and bright nose is smells like a funky fruit salad, a slice of cheddar, barnyard and dank basement. Taste is sharp sharp and sharper. Intensely tart, lots of lemon skin, dry green herbs, dust, tart white grapes, musty, dry oak, dry straw, extremely dry, unexpected strong salty sensation, uber-astringent. This is a refreshing beer but the intensity of the funky tartness and extreme dryness makes it more of a sipper than a thirst beer. I did not notice the advertised pumpkin and pumpkin seeds. This almost came through as a stronger Bam Bier that aged in carbernet barrels or something like that. Crazy good beer worthy of Jolly Pumpkin. So I read here that this beer “was created by Jolly Pumpkin to help raise awareness about prostate cancer”. Did you know that if a man was conceived doggie style, he has 1 in 6 chance to be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his life? Same as other men.

Bottle. Light hazy gold pour with abundant white head and heavy lacing. Aroma is full of gueuze-reminescent aromas, super tart, quite funky, spicy, with light old hop herbal notes. Taste is sweeter, more grain, good herbal notes under all the powerful jolly pumpkin sour/barrel notes. Palate is well carbed and full bodied, finishes slightly dry. One of the best JPs I’ve had.

750mL Bottle. Tart, spiced, and very, very, very musky aroma. A taste of immaculately fresh white grapefruit. I was really worried about the level of spicing in this beer, but this is pleasantly soft and married. Spices don’t overwhelm, but instead add to the complexity of the beer in a way that makes it a unique and fun Saison. Never soapy, always light and refreshing, but flavorful. I keep coming back to grapefruit and grapefruit rind as the overriding, spice-like emergence. Maybe a touch of lime. Good, good stuff. Young in a way, as it’s not that sour.

Tasted on 8/2/11 from a capped 750mL bottle shared by SpdKilz, thanks Carleton, bottled 7/22/10. Pours hazy light orange with a thick white head that slowly recedes to spotty lace and a decent collar. The nose is tart with some gooseberry and tropical fruit notes, green apple skin, the signature Jolly Pumpkin funk that I love, and some lemon acidity. The flavor is tart and sour up front with green apple skin and gooseberry, and pumpkin seeds, moving to Jolly Pumpkin funk, and some lemon acidity. The body is medium with slightly stronger than average carbonation, and a long, tannic, funky, acidic, and lightly bitter finish.

750ml bottle-pours a dissipating foamy light tan head and hazy amber color. Aroma is vinegar/acidic, light/medium malt, vinuous. Taste is grape skin/tannin.
