Black body, red hue, light brown head. Aroma is really complex - roasted malt, chocolate, peated and berryful, alcohol and some almondy sweetness. Flavour has much roasted notes and berries, sugar. Little on the imperial stout side, but doesn’t matter. Excellent brew and really well balanced. I liked the way the black raspberry taste came through.

Bottle, 375ml corked. A gusher, producing a dense, two-finger high beige head over an unclear, brown body. The aroma has booze, raspberries, some roasted malts and a little chocolate. It’s warming on the palate, full-bodied and with a pleasant carbonation level, and the whisky pretty easy to taste. Roasted malts and some berries too. Warming, bitter, chocolate finish. Although too boozy, I wouldn’t mind having it again, sure a nice one. 140307

Bottle split with JF at a Sue’s away mini tasting in the ’Sham, 11/03/14, acquired from Norreport Estate Wine in Hostelboro, DK #250/1060. Light black with a thin tan covering that soon dissipates to limited spotting. Nose is bitter roasty, tangy dark berry fruits, woody BA effect, light smoke, whisky. Taste comprises a big raspberry blast, mineral bite, smoke, BA whisky tinges, roasty tones. Full bodied, moderate carbonation, a little lifeless. Decent BA affair, delivers plenty of flavour and complexity, blending sweet and smoked tones and disguising the alcohol well, perhaps a little past its best in terms of appearance and feel now that it’s 5 years old but still worth seeking out none the less - the business end delivers!

25 Dec 2013, bottle. 2009 bottle, so 4 years old at tastinga . black. nose is tobacco and grape jelly. moderately sweet. med body and mostly flat. has a black currant jam flavor that is probably dominant, and accounts for the faint tartness. but there is also a bitter burnt toast and some leather/tobacco there that is interesting. all in all, interesting.

Bottle, bought @ Mikkeller Bar, Cph. Pours deep brown with a small, brown film head. Aroma has fine caramel, chocolate, oak, whisky, fresh fruitiness. Medium to low carbonation, fine dry and creamy mouthfeel. Flavour has fine roasted malts, chocolate, oak, lots of tart fruit. Well balanced.

Tinco (522) - Linköping, SWEDEN - FEB 28, 2013
Black with a big fluffy light brown head. Aroma: BIG raspberry note, some whiskey, spicy, nutty, dark fruits, but really the raspberries are overpowering, whiskey dark chocolate, . Taste: slightly sour, roasted, slightly bitter with a nice fruity sweetness. Notes of slightly tart raspberries, whiskey soaked berries, some roast, ash, some funky sugars. Flavour is very complex and there are sooo many flavours that blend together so it makes it hard to describe. THe raspberries and whiskey are dominant and play well together with the roasty base. Nice on Brewdog!

Bottle #923 of 1060 to celebrate my 1st wedding anniversary. It pours very dark brown with a quickly dissipating tan head. The nose is jammy, dark berry, raspberry, earth, roasty, smoke, coffee, honey and stewed orange. The taste is light roast, tangy berry, raspberry, bramble, jam, earth, wood, some alcohol warmth, cola, liquorice, nice sour fruitiness, light smoke, some acidity, iodine and a touch of spice with a dry, roasty finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Nice depth of flavour. Tasty and well-balanced. Fresh I preferred this version to the Imperial, however with a few years of aging the reverse is true. A very nice beer nonetheless.
