Once a year sour beer. Not really sour, but a wonderful finish similar to a less sweet lambic. On my way to see if they still have any more left.

Bottle. 2012 vintage. Poured into a tulip glass a darker copper brown color with a slight tan head. Nice sour aroma mixed with some wood notes. Some caramel as well. Medium mouthfeel. Dark fruit tartness up front with a oaky and slightly bitter aftertaste. Not as complex and smooth as other offerings but not bad just a little rough around the edges.

Originally reviewed: 1/12/11. 22oz bottle, vintage ’10, poured into a chalice. Pours a dark ruby-tinted mahogany with a thin beige head on top. The nose is full of sour pale fruits, apple, white grape, musty wood. Very nice nose. Begs me to sip. Moderate carbonation; mellow finish. At first sip this reminds me distinctly of New Glarus Unpl. Enigma. Seriously. This could be a clone. Mushy old apples, slight funk, sour grapes, hints of oak. Lots of flavor on this one. The finish is short and somewhat of a disappointment. What tarteness is there, disappears quickly. This is so easy to sip, dare I say gulp, that the alcohol sneaks up on you. Beware. This is my first of the style, and not sure how true-to-form it is, but I enjoyed it. I liked Enigma, and I like this. Good beer.
