4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 dwaggs2 (1179) - Jefferson City, USA - JAN 22, 2012
Bottle. Poured a dark brown color with a rich creamy three finger tan head, that retained throughout the entire beer. Left a little bit of lacing on the glass as it went. Some floaters in this beer. Beligian yeast, molasses, dark fruits all present in the aroma. Flavor was dark fruits, figs. Dark roasted flavors in the finish. The alcohol is present in the finish and more noticable as the beer warms. Big long finish. This beer is wonderful.

33 cl bottle @ home. Rated on 29.04.2011
Aroma has licorice, spices and hints of ash. Flavour is rather rich on spices. Also some licorice and ash. Way too spicy, reminds me of the spice overdose on some christmas beers.

Very Strange ber this one. Poured a semi murky brown color with a beige head. Aroma was of spices, dark fruits, chocolate, herbal hops, and agave. Flavor was abundant with agave, pretty sure that’s not in here but I kept getting tequila and other spices from this one. Odd, but interesting.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 stobbe74 (3163) - DENMARK - MAY 6, 2012
Pours a clear and dark brown beer with a beige head. The aroma is malt, caramel, dried fruit, alcohol and chocolate. The flavor follows the nose. The palate is sweetness with alcoholwarmth. Overall a good beer.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 FURLYSURIOUS (185) - Orono, Minnesota, USA - MAY 2, 2012
Poured from 330ml to Duvel tulip:
Pours with very minimal clarity and an excited medium brown head. Milky, stubborn consistency with decent lacing. Head is incredibly dense, like insulation.
The nose is scattered with caramelized sugars. Honey, oats, milk duds, not much of an alcohol presence, cocoa, brown sugar, hot chocolate bits.
Taste is extremely unique. The nose suggested something run of the mill but this is far from it. Grapes and booze up front... all those various chocolate hints don’t show themselves as clearly on the tongue. Some Belgian yeast surfaces after a bit of warmth. Very interesting.
Overall, this is exactly what I want from a pricey brew - not a textbook example of the style, but an adventurous take on a genre that I thought I knew. Very good.

Deep brown with a huge tan head, lasting soapy look, retention lacing galore... Quite spicy, anise like spice fruity, maybe even peppermint, and the flavor profile matches with a minty wintergreen grassy like flavor under a fair amount of roastiness... Medium full bodied...

12oz Vegas bottle. Honestly pours like an imperial stout, with a nice, foamy brown head. Huge aroma of dark fruit that I can smell while typing with the snifter a foot away. Closer up the aroma brings in a surprising amount of hops too; pretty cool. Flavor is exactly as defined: a Belgian strong ale crossbred with an IPA. The 10 ABV is well hidden too. Good and definitely unique.

Thanks SJ. A different approach to a Belgian strong. It had a bit of roast, chocolate, prunes, liquorice and vanilla.
It was odd, but really good.
