4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: AUG 14, 2014 Pretty sizable, fluffy head with a ton of lacing. Orange-gold. Aroma of grapefruit, orange, and pineapple, along with a floral bouquet. Taste is all of the aforementioned along with a great malt backbone and hoppy finish. Ridiculously smooth and easy to drink. This is simply extraordinary - love these beers that have been living up to the hype. Move over, Founders Centennial (despite its greater availability) - this is the best-balanced IPA I’ve ever had, although Ballast Point Sculpin IPA is technically a little tastier.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
1 pint 6 fl oz bottle at home. Hazy amber appearance with an ample white head and decent lace. My bottle was not the freshest (bottled 19/3/15) but this is still an outstanding US West Coast IPA deserving of it’s iconic status. Heaps of hops on the nose (pine resin, oranges, grapefruits, limes, lychees) on top of a robust caramel malt bill. Lovely smooth mouthfeel and softish carbonation with balanced flavours and a substantial resinous dry hop bitterness. The ABV is hardly noticeable.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bomber shared that poured a light yellow to medium orange color with off white head great lacing on the glass. The aroma is mind malt base and s nice citrus blend and some pine hops. The flavor is all that and more. More hops than malt. Enough malt to know its there but the citrus and pine hop flavors are dominant and delicious. Why I waited to try this is beyond me.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
A hazy, yellow-orange pour with a white head. The aroma has a big dose of citrus with prominent grapefruit. It has a medium body with oily texture and average carbonation. The taste is bittersweet with a lingering finish.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20

3.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Fine smell of grain... Hazy blond color. Alcohol taste, not so hoppy (deception). Good beer but not much more...

5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
Perfect IPA mango orange and passion fruit hop aroma. Clear orange pour and perfect carbonation that brought out fantastic hop aroma. Light ready malts the hops swirled around endlessly. The bitterness is not harsh but there, very well balanced with hop flavor and bitter finish.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Big bottle purchased in Portland and consumed in Minneapolis. Primarily orange with hints of golden interlaced within the IPA. The frothy white head sticks around at the half finger level the entire time. Heavy citrus notes in the aroma...probably grapefruit. Taste is just ridiculously smooth and well balanced. Healthy malt backbone which is part of what differentiates this IPA from other offerings. Citrus is a big star in this one but it’s offset by a nice tropical fruit sweetness. So, so happy this brewery is distributing to Minneapolis now. This is basically a perfect IPA.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Lunar Brewing Co., and shaker served showing a clear, orangey gold color, with a frothy & fairly persistent layer of off white head foam, and wavy, spiraling cling to the lacing. The aroma was a presentable nose that offered a blend of grapefruit & tangerine, with a touch of tropical scent. Medium bodied, backed up by good carbonation, the taste added a touch of malt sweetness, and citrusy bitterness combined with a resinous nature that prompted the lingering side of the astringency. An altogether decent IPA.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured from the bomber ($5.99) a steal at that price. Looks a orange amber with a nice 2 finger collar. I’m getting dry grapefruit, floral hops, just a touch of sweet, a little bit of dry at the end, some gritty, a little bit of everything I like. Guess that’s what they call well balanced. After reading reviews on Ale-smith beers I am seriously considering taking a vacation to San Diego to visit their brewery.
