AleSmith IPA used to be known as "Irie Pirate Ale." However, some nasty patent attorneys think the name is too similar to another brand, so we had to "cease and desist." It's a darn shame, but it beats an obnoxious legal battle, in both expenses and Excedrin. Don't worry though, we won't change the beer (which is a MUCH better IPA than that "other" brand). It was conceived as an American-style IPA to satisfy the yearnings of the most die-hard hopheads. Its high alcohol content may catch you unawares if you're not careful, but it's hard to resist once you've tasted it. Appearance: Deep golden to light amber color, and a nice beige head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with strong citrusy, resiny flavors, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness and a faint hint of plums and black cherries. Aroma: Strong piney-citrusy character, with vanilla in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, medium-bodied. Feels warm in the mouth from the alcohol.

UPDATED: AUG 13, 2013 Re-Rate: ALESMITH COMES TO WISCONSIN!!! Cannot beat a hoppy bitter fresh (7/24/13 date is less than 3 weeks old!!) IPA!!! Thanks Alesmith!!Original rating: Bomber from Bottleworks from my PASS trip shared with ck1. Pours a pale orange with a white head great lacing - very nice look. Aroma has pine, citrus, resin - some tropical fruit further down in the glass. Taste is of resin, pine, bitter citrus, some fruit for sweetness; more and more bitter thru the glass. Smooth and bitter. Finishes bittersweet. Really, really good. Smooth and tasty. ck1 says 16/17.

Clear, golden colour, big white head. Sweet, malty aroma with tons of fruits, especially citrus fruits. Taste is different. It’s dry with some sweet notes. Also floral and fruity notes. Medium, short bitterness.

Light orange colour, 2 fingers white head. Aroma of mango, peach, pineapple, caramel, bread, honey, flowers. Taste is medium bitter, light sweet. Pineapple flavour. Medium body, slick texture, average carbonation. Probably the best IPA I have had.

Good american IPA. Superbe texture, odeur alléchante. Goût pile dans le style, pas super fruité, amertume moyenne. Belle longueur en bouche en douceur. Bonne IPA de tous les jours.

Beautiful clear amber colour with excellent long lasting fluffy off-white head. Heady and inviting aromas of pine, resin, citrus and sweet malts. The taste is nicely balanced between sweet and bitter. The citrus is apparent upfront and then the pine and resin really kick in leading to a very enjoyable lengthy dry finish. Clean and crisp. This is a very special IPA and I’m not normally a big IPA drinker.

When the Ale Smith IPA rushes into your glass, you are assailed with a lush citrus aroma that tantalises, with only a hint of the strength of the ale. The head, once settled is a smooth foam of ivory clouds resting serenely on the surface of what is a very impressive ale. The first taste if this valiant effort by Ale Smith may result in you rushing back to the shop to buy more, as it's rich flavour of citrus, hops and acidic resin wraps your tastebuds like a velvet glove. Try it today. Frangimus

Keg at Brewdog Shep’s Bush. Crystal clear golden coloured pour with a lasting frothy white head. Aroma is lovely orange cirrus, tropical fruit, mango, lychee, tangerine. Flavour is really Clean base malts, punchy orange tangerine hop, grassy tropical hop. Uber smooth and drinkable. Palate is medium light, slightly sticky resinous on the tongue. Assertive clean citrus bitterness.

Very well balanced. Not too bitter, not too sweet. An everyday UP A from a great brewery. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Full bodied golden IPA, with grapefruit citrus. ’SOLID’ would be the best one word to describe this beer.

I’ll let the ratings speak for themselves but in my opinion this is a great beer and one of the best values out there. Any time I see it on the shelf I pick up 6 to 8 of these. Really solid IPA and recommend to all my friends.
