4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Beeronaut (169) - - JUL 27, 2011
I’ve had this beer a few times and was surprised to see I’d still never gotten round to rating it! Pours out a most attractive deep golden colour with just a tiny hint of haze, but all in all it’s pretty clear. Aroma is tropical sweet and delicious. Loads of honey and cereal, light toffee and caramel. Behind that you have touches of ripe mango, pineapple, pine, resin and a slight hop-glue effect which I love. Flavour is very well balanced, hits you up front with good bitterness, fresh citrus and herbs with a refreshing lightness, but this belies the subtle richness and creamy body of the beer. Lovely caramel and runny honey, good sweetness that balances the awesome hoppiness, but yet the hops never get too much. Mids show slight graininess with citrus. Finish is not massively long but is nicely drying and you get a slight return to sweetness with a kiss of pungent tropical hops. All in all this brew truly deserves its accolades as being one of the best IPAs around.
4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 TomTron (116) - Aiken, South Carolina, USA - MAY 30, 2012
Pours a hazy amber with a minimal head that dissipates quickly. Aromas of grapefruit, yeast, and some caramel. Taste pretty much sums up the aromas but this beer is superbly balanced. Nothing offensive in the realm of bitterness. Perhaps one of the best IPA’s ever. This beer is a rarity from where I’m from so this is a breath of fresh air to have something like this fall into my lap. CHEERS!
3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 ClubGonzo (1978) - Bergen, NORWAY - MAY 28, 2012
Bottle from Ølbutikken, Copenhagen, shared with Foffern and Inbreak. At last: the fabled AleSmith IPA - the search has been long and finally we were rewarded with a bounty of this top ranking beer at Ølbutikken! Been looking forward to this for a very long time. Aroma is grassy syrupy DIPA-ish hop tones, hints of nougat and honey melon. A bit faint; I had expected a more pronounced nose on this one. Taste is dry grassy hay tones, crispy leaves, hints of melon, grapefruit, wood and hazelnuts. Smooth, velvety and pretty compact mouthfeel; this beer feels heavier than it is and overall I’d put it more in the DIPA landscape than at least the classic American IPAs. Nice, but no. 1 in the world? Very far from it, as far as I’m concerned.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 BeerChaser0078 (884) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - MAY 28, 2012
Bottle. Pours a hazy brownish amber with a foamy white head that diminishes fairly rapidly. Fruity, hoppy aroma has notes of grapefruit, mango, passionfruit, lime and caramel. Flavour is hoppy and fruity like the aroma but has a stronger malt profile, balancing the powerful hops with a little caramel sweetness, and has more piney, grassy notes as well. Slick, oily mouthfeel with soft carbonation and a long bitter finish. This really is a great IPA, strikes an almost perfect balance between the sweetness and bitterness, it’s big but not too aggressive and quite delicious also.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Foffern (285) - Bergen, NORWAY - MAY 28, 2012
Bottle shared with (and courtasy of) ClubGonzo and Inbreak. Has a golden slightly hazy orange colour with an off-white head. The aroma is a bit sweet and grassy with hops and some caramel, nougatt, hay and cat piss. More fruity is the flavour with also more herbal hops with a bit of cat piss, berries, wood and a touch of alcohol. A slick mouthfeel, and a medium bitterness. The beer has an okay richness and a good balance between malt and hops.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 RoyalFlushing (35) - Mamaroneck, New York, USA - MAY 26, 2012
Bottle to chalice poured a light amber with orange hues, a magnificent white cloud head and significant lacing. Aroma inludes clementine, pine, caramel, and hints of tea leaves. First sip is a perfect balance of grapefruit and piney hops followed by a surprising flavor of genmai cha (roasted brown rice tea). The citrus and hops linger in the mouth and play with the palate. Smoothest, most well-balanced, flavorful IPA that I have had to date.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 kryon (267) - SWEDEN - MAY 25, 2012
Pours golden with frizzy medium head.
Aromas are... Wow! Explodingly hoppy aromas of grapefruit, tropical fruits and caramel malts. This is the perfect aroma!
Taste has citrus, breadyness, caramel, some apricot/peachy tones as well.
Palate is really good. Starts out quite hitty with some frizzyness, mover over sweet and end very bitter.
This is a really great IPA!

Pours a golden orange color with a paper thin head yet remains highly carbonated. Aroma of biting citric hops and a mild malt attempt to balance. Not as powerful as some ipas but easy drinking and very tasty. Mouthfeel is so smooth and keeps you coming back for more!

A top notch IPA. It’s one of my favorites. I have to say this brew gives a great after taste. A must try for any hophead.
