Bottle code 4591105 consumed 11/12/2011 at 60° into Luigi Bormiolli Michelangelo 13.5oz Snifter

Black with a 1/2" desaturated khaki head that quickly dissipates to a thin sheet and decently thick ring. Minimal lacing with a couple very jagged peninsulas. Orange and brown highlights are visible at the edges.

Smell is on the milky sweet side but includes a full gamut of imperial stout characteristics that blend and flow smoothly. Everything from toasted malt and sugar to coffee, lactose, dark fruit, chocolate, vanilla, molasses and anise. The body is medium-heavy, somewhat runny and velvety, clinging to my palette leaving a warm sense of spirit and caramel. Aftertaste shows off the barrel aging in it’s most naked state with coffee and dark fruit to compliment in the background.

Bottle shared by esp0r with me, Simonsen & Edvard, september 28th 2013. Black body, tiny brown head. Aroma is nicely balanced between the heavy roasted stout and cognac barrels, vanilla and dark fruits shine here. Taste is slightly alcoholic, lots of dark malt, vanilla, cognac and wood. Some chocolate too. Nice complex roast and vanilla finish.

Botella de 37.5 cl en casa. Marzo 2013.

Pours black as night with a low tan head. Aroma is booze, honey, muscovado sugar, cognac, dark red fruit, chocolate. Quite stringent and strong on the nose. Taste is honey, muscovado sugar, cognac, vanilla, esters, slight funk and chocolate. Mouthfeel is quite creamy yet somewhat sticky as well. Aftertaste is very alcoholic with tones of oak-aged grappa, honey, juniper berries. Very in your face and quite boozy, this will definately not be to everyone’s taste. Me, I quite like this!

Black, big brown head. Smells of cognac, coffee, roast and malts. Heavy sweet, cognac, oak, coffee and roast. Moderate bitter. Very nice. The cognac was the winner of the 5 we had in vertical tasting this evening
