4.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
This beer was everything I hoped it would be. The rye used to brew the beer gave it a great palate and character that supported the aggressive, but taseful (and tasty!) addition of peppercorns. This is the kind of beer i could drink almost any time. It has enough flavor to sip by itself, but is light enough to enjoy with many foods, and especially cheeses. Attractive amber color with decent head. Nice transition of flavors from sweet to aromatic to spicy....just like the description.
I would have liked to see a more pronounced bouqet of pepper in the aroma, but otherwise a perfect peppery rye beer. If only these dieu du ciel beers weren’t so darn expensive.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Aroma is pretty much all about spices, pepper obviously and a shy note of garlic. Taste is spicy with shy hints at smokey wood powder. Easy to drink at first, smooth and not really complex, but nevertheless very well-made. I can see this doing wonders pairing with food and stinky cheeses, if only they would bottle..

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
341ml bottle served in a tulip glass.
A: First of all, perfect beer art. Dieu du Ciel makes, IMHO, the most beautiful beer labels ever! Pours a beautiful deep amber color forming a medium to small bubbled slightly yellow head which dissipates quickly leaving a thin layer that remains for a long time. Many lingering lacings are left in the glass
S: Great nose. Strong notes of black pepper, chocolate, toffee, caramel malts and bready yeasts
T: Follows the nose. Strong notes of black pepper and caramel malts. Notes of rye, chocolate and cinnamon. Slightly bitter and peppery end
M: Light to medium body. Good carbonation. Chocolate, caramel and peppery aftertaste
O: Good drinkability. Great Spicy beer. Unique experience

BOTTLE. Cola brown in colour with flat white head & good carbonation. Dry on the nose, huge mouthful of rye, pepper & spices which led to an obvious spicy finish... With the peppercorn lingering on well after the mouthful.

Malty aroma, and a clear copper colour. The pepper really comes through on the finish, giving a good spicy tingle on the tongue. Not a classic, but again a really interesting beer from this brewery.

"Route des Epices pours mahogany in color. smells a little sweet with some pepper in there. feel is a little watery. flavor is nice but pretty mellow. the malts are pretty basic, and unfortunately the green and black peppercorns overpower the rye, which i couldn’t smell or taste.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a clear amber with minimal head/retention. Nose is lots of pepper with some fresh grain and a bit of caramel. Taste is....hard to describe. Malt taste up front but the pepper takes control and by the time the finish hits it’s just pure peppercorn spicyness. The nice rye malt character is sort of washed away by the intense pepper. Interesting, but not something I’d want to drink often

At a tasting, thanks kerenmk, smallish head, a little cloudy deep red to light brown colour, strong aroma of rye and crushed black pepper with some hay, flavor of rye and black pepper with some bread in the back, pleasant spicey tingling. Nice and very interesting.

Format: 341 ml
Taux d?alcool : 5,3%
