On tap at the Moth. Pours with a black hued body and tan head. Aromas of whiskey, Jack Daniels-esque (as opposed to a richer bourbon character), currants, plums, dark fruits, wood. A bit of sharp tannin, cola. Flavors are a touch watery and thin. Big bourbon, roasted, nutty, walnuts and cola with a dark fruit/stewed prune character. Medium carbonation, somewhat low in body.

Tap at the Meddlesome Moth, courtesy of bman1113vr. Dark ruby pour. Nose is vanilla, oak, bourbon, fantastic nose, very complex.... leather, coffee, earth. Flavor is tannic, oak, bourbon, vanilla, caramel. Tons of bourbon barrel on this, really solid! The mouthfeel is a bit disappointing, as it’s a bit watery.

Black cloudy plum. Rick dark fruit aroma with quite a bit of alcohol in the nose as well amd a fair amount of oaky vanilla. The head forms a small, sirty-white ring. Taste is rich ripe dark fruit, some apple peel, some cocoa, and a sligjt bitterness. Mouthfeel is cool and medium- light. Gets better with time, but a little on the sweet side.

Cost me ten dollars. This is not a porter. It is soured like vinegar. Not good. Really not good!

Not a bad offering. Bourbon is the first smell followed by some roasted malts. Very dark color with no head. Palate was a little watery and oily. Not as heavy as I would have preferred. No carbonation as can be typical with whiskey infused beers. This offset the friend I was drinking with. Flavors were more complex with bourbon, roasted malts (almost coffee-like), some chocolate but as an afterthought. It still retained characteristics of a porter. Alcohol was definitely present.

Sample at Hay Merchant in Houston. The beer is a very dark brown color with a medium tan head that recedes steadily. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, oak and vanilla. Medium to full body with flavors of oaky bourbon, chocolate malt and vanilla. The finish is roasty with a charred malt and bourbon aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

It has a really dark brown color, but looks thin (but heavy at the same time) with a very light brown head. The aroma is of very strong chocolate and nutmeg, maybe anise, with hints of biscuit malt. It has a really nice, interesting nose, but smooth at the same time - and light. You can feel the bourbon and wood in the finish, with a little of that alcohol and wood in the aroma as well. The flavor is of very strong bourbon - it’s light, though. Unlike most porters that are aged in such barrels, this is actually very easy. It’s still dark, though, and full of flavor, counter-balancing those insane bourbon notes. You can really feel it in your throat once it passes your tongue, and the bourbon flavor even makes your taste buds curl up a little. It has a really smooth palate, but is almost a little lacking, though - still, nice.

Murky brown with almost no head. Aroma mostly of bourbon, with wood and vanilla notes. Taste is semi-sweet woody bourbon and just a little bit of caramel malt. Medium bodied with very soft carbonation. Nothing about this made me think it was a porter.Good, but there isn’t much discernible beyond the barrel aging.

(Draught) Pours a cloudy brown body with a small cream head. Aroma of wood, greenness, raisins, chocolate, vanilla, and bourbon. Flavor of roasted malt, wood, bourbon, chocolate, and raisins.
