4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Appearance: near black, (ruby highlights when held to the light) with two-fingers of creamy light tan head shrinking to a thick collar and leaving generous lace rings. Aroma: dark chocolate, cacao, coffee, pumpernickel, a hint of smoke. Taste: predominantly bitter dark chocolate, a bit of roast coffee beans, slightly burnt toast, mellow, earthy hops. Finish: smooth, clean, with lingering dark malts balancing against earthy hops. Notes: A written description cannot do this beer justice. Simply the best schwarzbier I’ve ever had, better than traditional German versions, better than any American attempt. Beautiful pour, attractive nose, delicious, balanced flavors, creamy-but-refreshingly-drinkable palate, and a sessionable 4% abv. Near perfect. I’m very sad that I only grabbed a single bottle, and will be on the lookout for more.

(bottle - 12 oz) Dark brown pour with a puffy tan head. Light roasted malt aroma with a hint of chocolate. Dark malts at the start of the flavor with a lightly roasted coffee middle. Dark fruits and an almost wine-like hint at the finish before a touch of bitterness.

I like this beer, great tasting dark beer that isn't too heavy. Lots of great flavours and their can looks good.
Smells of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, slight off smell. Pours dark brown, almost black but some light does get through, thick mocca head. Tastes crisp, roasted malt, slightly bitter, grass, slight cola nut. Mouthfeel is good, out of the fridge was slightly thin, but as it warmed up it got better and better, well carbonated.

Respectable black lager. Slightly bitter finish. Caramel/smoky flavor. I have to keep writing to get the character count.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Black on color with a reddish-brown hue when held up to a bright light. Poured with a huge bubbly beige foam that drapes the glass with sticky lace. Earthy dark roasted and burnt malt aromas with hints of coffee and dark chocolate in the background. Medium bodied and smooth. Bitter burnt malt flavor up front that tapers through the middle to dark roasted malt and coffee flavors to the end. Better than expected, a nice surprise from Uinta.

Can from Tasty Beverage, Asheville. I never know how to pronounce this brewer’s name. The vowel placement seems a little, I don’t know, random? A little thin bodied, some nice coffee and black tea notes. Not bad.

Bottle. No detailed notes - entering from earlier tastings. Good example of the style.
