COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
From label: 2011. Malty and complex, this big beer has a strong caramel backbone supporting oak and whiskey flavors with hints of dark fruits. The nose wafts coconut, toffee and a smooth hint of alcohol. The flavor and aroma merge, becoming one after a single sip. There is a touch of bitterness and it will age well. ----------------- Additional notes (not on label / from brewer): Dry Dock Brewery will only produce 120 cases of this beer. it will be released the first week of October. Bligh’s Barleywine Ale will be only the second seasonal beer that Dry Dock has bottled. Its first, Apricot Blonde, came out in June and will be off the shelves by the end of September. A third seasonal, Wee Heavy Scotch Ale, is slated for release on November 14. All are sold in 22-ounce bomber bottles.

This is the barleywine that all other barleywines will be compared to throughout my beer life. Amazing nose, oak, barrel char, fruits, bourbon, malt and sweet sweet nilla’. Good lawrd this taste amazing, way better than King Henry in my opinion. The taste follows the nose. Perfect viscosity and coating. Carbonation is spot on as well. Damn this is a fine beer.

Pour a clear mahogany brown, with not head at all. Aroma has some very nice barrel character to it. Abble wood, cinnamon apple pie, caramel, burned sugar, dark fruits. A whole lots of malty stuff going on. Taste is pretty sweet, with faint hints os fruity sourness. Medium body, slightly watery mouthfeel. I was pleasently surprised by, really nice and comforting.

2014 bottle split 2 ways. Had this for the first time at the Darkness eve bottleshare and loved it. Pours a deep brownish crimson red with no head a a few bubbles here and there. The nose has soft bourbon notes and baked apples, caramel fudge and hints of booze. The taste is well rounded and all flavours are totally integrated. Not a trace of hops.. Christmassy english style BW. The mouthfeel is soft but alive. Really one of the best barleywines I can remember trying. Really well balanced with an elegant aftertaste. Thanks once again to Ryan for introducing me to this and sending a bottle to Denmark.

Bottle @ Steasy’s. Thanks for sharing! Hazy amber pour with a small off-white head. Plenty of almond. Sweet, slightly earthy marzipan character. Mild chocolate and stewed plum. Flavor is rich and well balanced. Sweet forest fruit, elegant chocolate. Toasty nut. Full and fat. Wonderful.

Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured hazy reddish brown color with an average frothy tan head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy dark fruity, toasted malt and alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Moderate to heavy dark fruit sweet flavor with a medium to heavy dark sweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a standout beer.

22 oz bottle 2013 vintage from adnielsen shared with the group. Pours a hazy caramel brown color with a thin beige ring. The aroma and flavor have sweet malts, caramel, vanilla, coconut, dark fruits, very fruity, apricot, this is exactly what I like in a barley wine, sweet, caramel, barrel is well integrated into the base beer, solid.

22oz bottle, shared by alexsdad06. 2013 vintage, with an $18.99 sticker on it. Labeled 10.5%. Big dark fruit, sherry up front, touch of peat in the nose. Oooh, the taste that follows is nicer than the smell, I think. Richer, with nice caramel, vanilla, mild spiciness. Moderate to bigger sweet taste, some heat, mild bite to it. Mild to moderate bitter. Hazy brown color. Minimal head. Medium to bigger body, nice full feel. Good full body. Mild dry finish. Lighter carbonation. Pretty awesome barleywine. If we’re talking fruit, I can see the candied apricot here. Fun beer. I usually don’t care for aged beer, but this guy did alright.

Boozy port wine/sherry aroma. Looks like cola with absolutely no fizz. Boozy caramel flavor. Excellent palate. Glad I didn't age this one, it is not overly strong when fresh. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bomber shared by Brad, thanks. Cloudy caramel pour. Super sweet boozy aroma. Taste is so smooth, sweetness really hides the booze. Awesome barleywine.
