COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An Imperial Blonde Ale or Blonde Barley Wine; Helldorado has the lightest color of any of the beers in our barrel program but carries a great deal of interesting barrel character: vanilla, light char and amazing lavender-honey notes. Rich boozy honey liqueur character and loads of smooth sweet toasted malt to finish. The El Dorado hops dance in the background without playing a dominant role in the flavor profile. This beer gets better and better the longer it is in barrel.

UPDATED: JAN 13, 2013 So, I have not rated a beer in a long time, but I have found my new favorite beer. Clear golden, dark fruits, vanilla, citrus hops, little toffee, little white grape.

Tap into a snifter showing well filtered golden yellow with sparse white foam. The nose shows strong bourbon notes - smoke and oak. The palate is full bodied with no carbonation. Lightly sweet with flavors of corn forward bourbon and oak in the background. Malts seem to clash with these flavors. But there is practically no alcoholic spice despite the ABV.

Half Pint from super deli Mart Vintage 2015. Nice light Amber color and really complex taste. Little sugar and the alcohol is a bit more apparent. Really great but maybe not as super complex as other other barleywines that are around. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2016 vintage from 650ml bomber. Aroma: dried honey and crumbled graham cracker on the top notes, with vanilla, cinnamon, and nondescript floral in the basenote. Appearance: pours a honey-hued apple cider (i.e., crystal clear, golden orange), with a quickly dissipating, bubbling ivory head. Medium lacing with slowly rising carb bubbles. Some flocculating yeast. Taste: sweet mead, shortbread, cinnamon spice upfront give way to mild alcohol spice and vanilla. Palate: smooth on the tongue with surprisingly crisp aftertaste. I would expect such a honey-forward attitude on this to end with a sickly sweet mouthfeel, but that isnít the case. Great beer.

650ml bottle (2016 Edition, 11.8%) pours a golden color with a finger of white head that leaves only a few spots of lacing on the glass. Aroma is vanilla and oak with alcohol and sweet malts. Taste is a caramel and malty sweetness with vanilla and a mild hop bitterness finishing with alcohol burn. Medium bodied with good carbonation. Overall, a boozy barley wine that is quite sweet on the tongue, but flavorful. Recommended.

2016 batch. Pours copper with minimal head. Nose is a sweet, bready malt with leather and wood. Taste is a caramel malt, toffee. The barrel is giving off some oak and vanilla, but it has soured somehow. Lightly carbonated, thin bodied. I got to admit, Iím disappointed. This is a couple of steps behind Firestone Walkerís other anniversary components.

Draught at Rose and Crown in Palo Alto. Moderately hazy (chill haze?) yellow with small white head that dissipates quickly. Moderate floral and honey aspect, and a rich malt support.

Pours a deep honey golden color with good clarity and two fingers of white foam. Nose is toasted honey wheat bread with whipped honey butter, soft vanilla , candy corn and light herbal floral notes. Palate is smooth and layered with notes of peanut brittle, buckwheat honey, blonde brownie, light bitterness creeps in on the sweetness and cleans up the finish as the alcohol evaporates and leaves a chewy blondie brownie flavor lingerings on the palate. Another solid FW offering !

651 ml. bottle. Vintage 2016. ABV 11.8% per the label. Pours a thin, rapidly collapsing, ivory head, with no lacing, over a hazy, deep amber (SRM 11) body.....nose is heavy malt, with peach, apricot, tones, mild oak, vanilla, minimal hop notes, except for slight grass, balance to the malts......taste is moderately sweet, with honey tones, mild florality, multiple fruits, including golden raisin, peach, apricot, also hints of whiskey, oak, vanilla from the barrel, becoming almost dry with minimal hop spice and bitterness, balance to the malts......mouth feel, thick sticky body, alcohol burn present, low carbonation with slight acid. This is a rich, sweet, obviously barrel aged, quite alcoholic beer. The recipe is different from the initial, as shows up in the change of ABV. It really does not meet any of the style guidelines for a Barleywine, so it falls into the looser categories of Barrel Aged, and perhaps American Strong Ale. Rating above to pleasure, below to style.
