AKA Holiday Ale
AKA Holiday Leftover Ale
AKA Brown Sugar Substitute

This sad holiday season we didn’t have the brewing capacity to make our favorite seasonal brew, the widely feared BrownShugga’ Ale. You see we had a couple of really good years (thank you very much) and so heading into this season while we are awaiting the January delivery of a new brewhouse we are jammin’ along brewing 80 barrels of IPA and PILS and such every 3 hours. A couple of months back we realized that since we can only brew a mere 60 barrels of Shugga’ every 5 hours, that we were seriously screwed. For every case of Shugga’ brewed, we’d short 3 cases of our favorite daily beers. It’s a drag. This year, we brewed something that we think is also cool and brews more like our daily brews. The new brewhouse will help insure this kind of failure never happens again. It’s a mess that we can not brew our BrownShugga’ this year and we suck for not doing it. There is nothing cool about screwing this up this badly and we know it. Maybe we can sue our own sorry selves. There is no joy in our hearts this holiday and the best we can hope for is a quick and merciful end. F*@& us. This totally blows. Whatever. We freaking munch moldy donkey butt and we just want it to be all over...
So this substitute beer is a ‘Cereal Medley’ of Barley, Rye, Wheat, and Oats…. Full of complexishness from the 4 grains, and weighing in at 7.85% abv, Then joyously dry-hopped for that big aroma and resinous hop flavor.

Remember back in the day when you would fall down the basement stairs drunk as shit at 4AM and be 100% convinced that you never woke your parents? Well, I just fell down the stairs and once again I am 100% convinced that they never heard because they live 30km away - still got the magic!

I feel great knowing that I pretty much bought the entire city supply and drank it all to myself - E-town crew loves me for this and so do I. Drink 72 beers and barely saved one for review because it was so god damn good. Make that 2 - I just drank the last surviving bottle on Earth that I left hanging around for my own funny time reminder. And yea, it still was AWESOME. So awesome. Rare beer does taste better! LOL. Rating goes back to early December 2011 and its just short notes as it was pretty much impossible to review this as it was just pure joy to drink it... even as I drained the entire city’s supply solo. tung: Piles of citrus - citrus that tears apart my mind on every freaking sip - oranges, rrgf, pine, grapefruit rind, cherry, floral greatness remeniscent ... how the hell is that spelt? - of fresh cut flowers, slight grain, honey, apricot, secretions of only the most heavenly of creatures, tropical fruits and soft malts. This beer has absolutely everything I want to smell. Hours... hours have been spent smelling this brewed treasure. Tasty bits: Aside from the outlandish amount of hops and citrus, sweetness and thickness there is a fuckload of malt backing this monster. Sweetness abounds. Pineapple flops around, pine goodness, peaches, lemon, mild caramel, something that might be spearmint, grapefruit, unique malt base darker than it normally is, orange, pepper, resin, light dose of brown sugar for the sweet base, aaaaaa soooo good! medium body that is supported both by the hop thickness and the healthy structure of yummo malts. Perfection. Find me another ASA that beats this and I will marry your daughter that resembles an ugly donkey.

Pours hazy blonde with a fine white head. Nose is deliciously potent west coast hops with lots of citrus and resins. Flavor is a similar burst of hops, but not to the point of over bittering the malt. finish is surprisingly dry. a great example of a West Coast IPA.

The nose is mild with some initial fruity hop and some pine needle underneath. A weirdly sweet beer. Lots of sugar mixes with a very fruity hop profile, it has apricot, orange and papaya notes. It’s bitterness is pleasant.

Bottle@home, from Wine Spot, Cleveland, USA. Medium, earthy, slightly sour aroma of sweet malts and berries on the background. Golden color with small artificial head and slightly hazy liquid. Medium/strong, slightly sour and complex taste with malts, brown sugar and hops. Some berries. Averagely balanced with wide taste spectrum and long hoppy and malty aftertaste. Medium body with low/medium carbonation. Overall, a bit weird and messy, because has features of different styles.

Poured from a bottle. Pours a bright amber yellow with a medium white head. Aroma is semi-sweet and bready with a hint of pine. Nice body, light and syrupy texture. Full mouth feel. Smooth semi-sweet citrus with only a slight bitterness on the roof of the mouth. Smooth finish with flavors that linger for awhile. Solid and very refreshing and enjoyable.

Poured into a pint glass. 4.25 A: Clear light orange color. Two fingers of creamy off-white head. Retention is good and lots of lacing is left. 4.0 S: The grains mesh to make something quite pleasant - earthy spiciness from the rye, grainy barley, oaty oats, and mild neutral wheat. Seems like there’s a lot of rye comparatively, you could comfortably call this a rye brew. Big orange citrusy hops, floral, and spice. Big and powerful. Pretty good. 4.0 T: Tastes like it smells. Tons of earthy spiciness, spicy hops, caramel malts. Again lots of floral and orangy hops. Mild-moderate bitterness. Again, big rye component, which I really enjoy. 3.75 M: Lighter medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Pleasantly creamy and super smooth. 4.0 D: Really nice beer. I can see why so many enjoy it. ★ 815 characters DavoleBomb, Jun 13, 2015
