4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
í11- Pour is jet black and oily, with a small tan head. Nose is of vanilla and bourbon mostly, outside of a slight coffee note. Taste is exactly like the nose, with a little more chocolate note, and a sweet little fruit kick as well, though very hard to discern through everything else. Flavors blend very well.
í10- Very similar to the í11 though a bit more bourbon-ish.

Bottle í13, tasted side by side with Huna and Darkness. Pitch black with a tan head. Nose is sweet, vanilla and milk chocolate. Taste is sugary, syrup, oily, vanilla, milk chocolate and some caramel. A bit too sweet and cloying but still solid!

A- bam. Pours a syrupy deep cola brown with thin ring of medium khaki head and no lacing. S- just mince meat, rhubarb and soy sauce. Some middling chocolate and figs. A little charcoal, and soil. M- full body with a strong oily character. T- so cloying. Chocolate covered cherries, port, Terry's milk chocolate orange, vinegar tang and lemon. Raisins, grasses and a meatiness in the middle. Ending is dry and efficient with some lingering plastic chocolate candies, toffee, molasses, caramel and hops.

3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: FEB 5, 2015 Blue wax 2014 poured into a taster glass. No head despite a very aggressive pour. Seems to be black, oil, and light bodied.
The nose shows mostly soy sauce and very faint hints of sweet malts.
The palate on this is where it begins. Itís probably the most oily and slick bodied stout Iíve ever tried. Very full bodied and smooth. The 15% alcohol is definitely apparently as it gives it a lot of heat akin to chili. There is a raisin/port wine-like sweetness and ends on a strong coffee/espresso note of bitterness. A lot of people complain about the sweetness but if you chill it well, itíll numb your tongue enough not to notice. Personally, I donít find it cloying at all. This has to be tried at least once!

2013. Finally got to try this. Nose is of dark fruit, like chocolate, a bit of anise and sherry notes. Taste is much the same but itís a bit too sweet. Perhaps better when fresh. Meh.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle 2012 vintage. Had alongside a german chocolate cake, which I would highly recommend. Deep chocolate flavor, thick viscous pour, great nose. Worth all the hype.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
2009 bottle. Enjoyed 12/31/14. Pours like oil with nearly no lasting head. Aroma has awesome, slightly sweet notes of caramel, roasted malts, mild dark fruits, chocolate, nuts, and a slight creamyness. Taste is sweet with roasted malts, caramel, chocolate, and sweet cherries. Full body with a low carbonation. Creamy smooth texture with nearly no carbonation and no trace of alcohol. Overall awesome.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Served from 22oz red waxed í12 bottle. Served in Teku.
Aroma -- sweet cherry, oak-like aroma unlike other Imperial Stouts Iíve encountered. Rightfully so, the aroma of this beer, unlike many other world-class beers, is one of the most unique attributes of this beer. It should be admired for its magnificence.
Appearance -- possesses the consistency of an oil well: abysmal, hellish, beyond the cusp of foreboding darkness.
Taste -- true full-bodied, pleasantly deep, Imperial Stout that engulfs your palate and pushes you to the limit, Ross. Booziness has died down, still 15%+, nonetheless.. Subtle burnt char-like, smokiness after you have had many sips. I would not consider the beer smokey, though, by any means (i.e., I have a hard time appreciating smokiness in beer; the smokiness that is present in DL í12 is enjoyable for any IRS lover).
Palate -- encourages your palate to step its game up and appreciate the uniqueness of this remarkable concoction.
Overall -- Dark Lord is not the greatest Imperial Stout ever made; nonetheless, it surely stands in a category of its own: pure damnation, emboldening me to set my own substantial precedent. Merry Christmas, Ratebeer lovers.
