4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
’11- Pour is jet black and oily, with a small tan head. Nose is of vanilla and bourbon mostly, outside of a slight coffee note. Taste is exactly like the nose, with a little more chocolate note, and a sweet little fruit kick as well, though very hard to discern through everything else. Flavors blend very well.
’10- Very similar to the ’11 though a bit more bourbon-ish.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle from a trade. Many thanks artmcd8! Vintage 2014. Oily syrupy texture. Black, almost no foam. Aroma of sweet molasses, sweet brown chocolate, sticky toffee pudding, caramel and vanilla. Very sweet, boozy and sticky. This is not a good stout. Overly sweet without complexity. Impossible to drink a lot of this, so with the rest of the bottle we made a cake, which was very good with Dark Lord as ingredient.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
600ml bottle served in a snifter glass.
I’ve bought this one at one of my last visits to California, in 2010. This is the 2010 Edition which can be recognized by the green wax on the bottle neck.
A: Pours a black color forming a small and bubbled tan head. Low retention and only few lacings left in the glass
S: Strong roasted malts, dark chocolate, dark fruits and wood. Excellent! Licorice and vanilla to compose. A bit boozy in the end
T: Sweet and roasted upfront. Notes of dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, oak, licorice, vanilla and dark fruits. Cherry notes. Complex. Maybe a bit too sweet and too booze in the end
M: Heavy, creamy and molasses body. Low carbonation. Smooth with a bittersweet and roasted and woody aftertaste
O: Great drinkability. A masterpiece. Worth the three years that I’ve wait to drink it

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
22oz bottle ( 2013) in a teku. Pours black with a lacy, beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, some chocolate and coffee, light vanilla, some molasses, and some dough. Flavor the same with a lot of dark malts and coffee and chocolate. Smooth, thick texture. A really good beer - not getting too much soy sauce like a lot of people said, and the alcohol was well hidden.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
"09 release...obviously pours jet black, with a better than expected (but quickly disappating) dark brown head. the aroma is a little on the sweet side, but way complex. chocolate soaked cherries, wood, molasses, brown sugar. some alcohol present too. body is thick and smooth, but not cloying. feel is awesome...coating and warming at the same time, without being hot. like a toned down World Wide. flavor is awesome. lots of the same qualities of the aroma, but they work better in the flavor. a little charred flavor as well. very wine/port like. overall, an awesome beer. worth the price and hype? yes and no...probably more no. Not when World Wide is similar (though not the same) at about $8 a bottle, and other great RISs are out there for way way less. Glad we tried it the once. MAYBE i’ll revisit an aged bottle in the future. 11/11 - 2009-2010-2011 vertical: 2010 was amazing, maybe even a 4.7, while the aroma was just a touch behind on the newer 2011 (though the cofee presence was more obvious and very nice), and the 2009, while still great, is just starting to fade a little and become excessively sweet...but only when in comparison to the nearly perfect 2010 batch."

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
2014 version. Pours black with very little head. Aroma is of dark fruits, roasted malt. Taste is strong but nice. There?s a bit of a saccharin taste at first with some dark fruits. Not as good as Bona Fide but darn good.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Tasting of 2012 edition. Aroma of soy sauce and molasses, taste is soy sauce, molasses, chocolate, coffee, sweet and very sticky, alcohol hidden extremely well, no head, no carbonation, motor oil pour. Glad to have tried but not worth the hype in my opinion.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Aroma of sweet molasses, booze, and coffee. Pours dark and thick without much head. Very viscous mouthfeel. Hugely sweet with flavors of molasses, oak, licorice, coffee, and light hops. Very sweet, but very good. Probably awesome with vanilla ice cream.
