Commercial Description:
The dark, robust body and pronounced smoky flavor of this limited edition beer make it an adventuresome taste experience. Alaskan Smoked Porter is produced in limited "vintages" each year and, unlike most beers, may be aged in the bottle, much like fine wine.

22 oz. bottle from South Bay Drugs. Pours near black with a small tan head. Aroma of campfire smoke, wood, roasted malt, chocolate, burnt toast- very cool. Flavor of smoked wood, chocolate, roasted malt, molasses, vanilla, hops. Smoky, bitter, and roasty. Good balance, as these often just seem like smoke over everything else. Medium body. This is a great smoked beer.

22oz. bottle, 2006 vintage. Purchased from Bottleworks in Seattle in 2007 and cellared since that time. Roasty, lightly sweet and nicely smoky aroma, notes of coffee, black bread, caramel, faint wood and dark chocolate. Dark brown-black color with a lasting, fine tan head. Flavor is roasty and sweet to start, some sugared coffee aspects, turning lightly fruity and bitter, the smoke and some faint bitterness coming though on the finish, along with suggestions of dark, dried fruits, toffee and chocolate. Very smooth palate, the effervescence no doubt having mellowed somewhat but not to any detriment. Body is medium-full. Amazingly drinkable and refined. Really nice.

Aroma of salty smoked ham, chocolate, coffee, and some burnt black malts. smoky ham dominates aroma ~Pours black with some dark garnet. The head is brown and creamy. Small but good head retention. ~Smokey, woody, roasted chocolate malt flavor. Bitter roastiness. Balance in flavor leans more towards bitter malts than the smokiness. Good balance in flavor. ~Medium light bodied. Medium carbonation. No astringency. Lasting bitter malt finish. Dry. ~Good brew. Makes me wonder what this would taste like aged for a year or two. The body is a bit thinner than I would have liked. Very enjoyable smoked porter overall.

A solid and extremely smoky porter that could use some aging. The beer pours a nice black-brown with a healthy head, a pleasant surprise as I wasn’t expecting much. It smells like a smokehouse that makes summer sausage and smoked salmon. This flavor and smell would probably smooth with age, but I know very little about cellaring. The taste is mostly smoke with some sweet chocolate or coffee, struggling to make it through the thick haze of smoke. I imagine cellaring for a long period would allow the other flavors to brighten up and smooth out the smoke. The feel is good, bubbly and mouth-coating.

Bottle from outwest somewhere in Colorado. Pours a almost pitch black beer with a thin light tan head. Aroma is soft smoky and malty. Flavor is smoky with a light hop bite and a dry bitter finish. nothing special here. 2008 bottle

acrid smoke character that dissapates into a muscatel flavor with touch of smoke. nice fresh malt flavor to this 2007 bottle the brew was like an english porter and light in body, for a porter that is. it was like an aged wine i suppose with just a bit of sugar.

Pours a coffee brown with a tan head. Smells of hickory wood chips, chocolate, coffee, apples, toffee and hops. Wow, nice carbonation taste is very smoky, almost like applewood smoked bacon, definite roasted malts as it warms, hops and warming alcohol in the finish, stellar beer. I’d enjoy this on multiple occasions.
