4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 neepsntatties (761) - Portland, USA - FEB 8, 2012
Had this on tap at Humpy’s just before the 2012 GABBF (what an amazing "breakfast" beer!). Colour... as black as the singularity of a black hole, with a thick, dark tan head. Nose... lightly smoky and brimming with dark chocolate, booze, wet earth and charred bacon. Palate... chewy, coating, dry, oaky and ashen with loads of bittersweet chocolate, a heaping helping of booze and a deep, dark broodingly tannic feel with anise and black strap molasses at the back of the palate. This is one of MSBC’s finest pieces of zymurgistic art!

On tap at Fredfest 2012. Pours black with a modest tan head and a treacle aroma. There is a thick dark molasses and rye flavor that sticks to the palate. Lots of chocolate. You almost need a spoon to consume it, but it’s bloody good.

Thanks to savnac for sending me this guy, really been looking forward to this. Pours a deep black with no head. Typical look for a Midnight Sun stout. Nose is sweet with a kick of rye. There is also some chocolate, a little dark fruit, and a little oak. Flavor is exceptionally charred, it is a kinda dominant. Some more chocolate and heavy malt and eye. A little thinner than Beserker or Bar Fly but still coats the palate nicely. Has a nice long finish and has light carbonation. A solid RIS, probably my third favorite from them. Would like the rye to come through a little more, but it’s still a solid imperial stout.

courtesy of honkyak4, thanks! one of the thickest, blackest, most viscous pours i’ve seen in quite a while, looks thicker than marshal z! not much head but a decent brown layer. the taste is good, though a bit one dimensional, roast, roast and more roasty tye here. pretty good, but doesnt keep my attention for more than a normal pour. overall a very hearty and warming stout. skipped dinner cause of this badboy, lol!

Taste is chocolate, getting bitter, lime peel, molasses and black coffee. Big brew, not too roasty, with rye adding a nice counterpoint.

It poured a black color with a brown head. The aroma was slightly fruity, with a big roast flavor and chocolate. The taste was even richer with charcoal, roast flavor, dark chocolate, sweet dark fruits, and more. Very tasty.
