A nice growler Mc Chouffe compliments of my favorite Joe Canals in West Deptford, NJ. Nice amber hue with a slight head. Nice honey like aroma. Nice crisp malty taste with a nice bite. Great beer highly recommended.

28.11.2014. Dark brown, coarse white head. Spices, raisins, plums, syrupy malts on nose. Taste is medium bodied, malty, dried fruits. Solid Belgian ale but doesnt stand out enough. Taste is a bit thin and boozy.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. First time I have drunk this in a long long time. Nose is very nutty, slight caramel, some celler, touch of toffee, malt, hint of smoke. Taste is toffee, nut, emerging caramel, honey, brown sugar, some raisin and stewed apple, touch of orange, some spices. Mouthfeel is too carbonated.
Nice to revisit, but I’ve remembered while it’s an occasional friend. The beer is to sweet and too thin, giving a slightly sickly edge which detracts.

33 cl bottle @ home. Pours dark brown with thick, beige head which fades fast. Aroma of caramel, some dark red fruits, and nuts. Very soft palette, tastes bit sweet and sour. Long aftertaste. Not my favorite brown.

Bue en bouteille de 33cl, couleur brune, belle mousse blanche, effervescence moyenne, un nez sur le grillé, en bouche attaque sur le grillé, puis caramel belle prestance sur le sucre vraiment pas mal. Avec une finale sèche.

2.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20
Dunkelbraun mit beigem, instabilem Schaum. Riecht nach überreifen Bananen und dunklen Kirschen. Der beim Brauprozess eingesetzte Zucker sorgt dafür, das man von den 8% Alkohol nur wenig merkt.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours brown colour with ruby reflexes. The head is of considerable size but fades quite quickly. Aroma of raisins, caramel, dried fruits, a bit wine, even some funky notes appeared (or it was just my imagination). Unexpectedly light in taste, moderately sweet with a slighty sour finish and a distinct raisin and caramel notes. Great drinkability, a decent example of Belgian Ale.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle, 330 ml. Pours murky brown/red, hint of gold perhaps. Minimal head, off-white when present. Good lacing. Pungent, smokey nose with a good dose of molasses or muscavado, honey and bread. Alcohol is quite prominent; little bit of a nose burn perhaps. Distance spices and dark fruits Taste isn’t as sweet as expected, with few notes initially (just a bit of honey and dark fruit maybe) but a good deal of wholemeal bread and other cereals emerging later. Gets quite bitter on the long finish with small coffee notes coming around, along with darker malts. Bitter notes linger for a while. Alcohol isn’t detectable, unlike on the nose. Dark malt and coffee notes are very subtle in the mix compared to how they might be in a stout, but definitely detectable. Do wish there was more going on upfront however. Palate is innofensive with moderate carb and a decent smooth, medium body. Refreshing to an extent. Quite good overall though I prefer my strong dark belgians to be a little more upfront and complex.
