4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 Frank (2059) - Chicago, USA - JAN 27, 2012
This is what I’m talking about! Low alcohol and super flavorful. This drinks like a ncie, roasty porter but it’s light and extremely drinkable. Big coffee, chocolate and hops fill out the flavor. Dry and light but full flavored texture. It’s nearly black, rich and delicious. I don’t miss the alcohol at all.

Dark pout with a big head. Mouth is a little thick, but pleasant. Nice roast in this one. Almost a little smokey. Clean palate. Very easy drinking.

Pours a nice dark brown/black color with a thick tan head. Aroma is malty...light roastiness a mild cocoa...slightly nutty. Flavor follows suit...nice citrusy hop noted to balance out the roasty malt. Mouthfeel is light and silky with a mild coffee finish. Very awesome low abv beer!

Draft at Blue Dog. Pours hazy brown with khaki head. Nose is earthy caramel malt, toffee, nuts. Tastes earthy, vienna malty, with finishing brown sugary and nutty hints, but was not ever sweet to me, with some hops at the end.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 dumontn (528) - CHICAGO, Illinois, USA - FEB 27, 2012
Pours deep hazy red with a thin and sparse head with little retention. Aroma is like a black IPA with some roast notes and a strong pine backbone. Taste is creamy roasty chocolate, pine, citrus, somewhat watery but would never guess this is only 3.5%abv. Body is light to medium, low carbonation, balanced bitter roasty finish.. Overall, probably the best and most flavorful session beer I’ve ever had. Blows my previous favorite, Revolution Workingman Mild, out of the water.

On tap at Winterbrew. Pours a deep brown, almost black colored body with a finger-width, creamy and frothy, brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is very roasty with a light chocolate and a good amount of citrus pine resins. Flavor is similar. Light chocolate sweetness up front with some bread and caramel before lots of dry roasts and a nice citrus, resiny pine hopping comes in. Finishes dry, roasty, and resiny with a light bitterness before leaving a lengthy aftertaste. Light body with a moderately lively carbonation. Overall, a pretty impressive beer for such a low ABV%. Lots of flavor in a very crisp, easy drinking, light body. Nice one.

UPDATED: MAR 3, 2012 Draft at revolution, pours black with creamy tan head. Aroma has nice piney and grapefruit citrus with a good roasted character. Flavor is full, good hoppy and roasted malts, citrus and chocolate. Tangy finish. Somewhere between a dark mild and a black ipa. Really the first beer I’ve had quite like this and it proves there’s lots of beer world untraveled in this area, small, hoppy, dark. Awesome.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 andyhwcinc (926) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - FEB 4, 2012
Enjoyed on tap at Bad Apple in Chicago, IL while eating dinner with some friends. Appearance is very dark brown with thin off white head. Aroma of chocolate malt and piney hops. Taste is unique, hops used seem very natural/piney compiled with the roasted chocolate malt, tastes ’dirty’, grows on you after a while.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Newk (204) - - JAN 8, 2012
had this from a growler and poured into a pint glass. No real head to it but pours a solid brown color.
Extremely good aromas of roasted nuts, caramel, malts and a touch of hop aromas too. Very good depth accompanies this as well
light bodied with a nice feel, but lacking a bit. Well balanced with flavors of roasted malts, caramel and a touch of hops on the back end
a nice session ale. If the feel and flavors were as good as the nose, this would really be something. Still, it’s enjoyable as is
