4.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 MPosey (131) - , USA - DEC 4, 2011
Pours an almost Cola like color with an offwhite head which disappates but still laces nicely. Malt and yeast aromas abound. Initial sparkly attack which fades to a nice malty/sweet finish with a long aftertaste. Very nice beer.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 HopfenWeisse (271) - - MAY 23, 2012
750ml bottle from Bierzwerg. Dark brown colour with huge head. Aroma malty, sweet. Flavour is caramel, spices, yeast, sweet. Maybe too cold, might try again.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 superspak (775) - Michigan, USA - MAY 22, 2012
750 ml bottle into tulip glass, best by 2014. Pours hazy brick red color with a nice 2-3 finger foamy khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Some slight spotty lacing on the glass, with a decent amount of carbonation streaming up. Aromas of big allspice, cinnamon, candi sugar, bread, molasses, date, citrus peel, raisin, cherry, pepper, earth, herbal, and yeast spices. Very nice and balanced aromas with good complexity. Taste of big cherry, raisin, cinnamon, earth, bread, pepper, clove, citrus rind, candi sugar, date, molasses, herbal, and yeast spices. Lingering notes of cinnamon, pepper, molasses, earth, cherry, nutmeg, candi sugar, raisin, date, herbal, and yeast spices on the finish for a while. Great flavor balance with spiciness; with nice complexity and no cloying sweetness. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with quite a slick and fairly creamy mouthfeel, which is nice. Alcohol is well hidden at 10% with only a small warming after the finish noticed. Overall this is a great Belgian holiday ale! Very nice flavor and aroma complexity; and very smooth to sip on for such a big beer. Really enjoyed this one.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 maneliquor (1189) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - MAY 20, 2012
Bottle from Mane Liquor. 2009 edition. Pours amber with a small, bubbly, yellow head leaving thick lacing. Nose is sweet and sour. Very cider like with lots of spices and sour undertones. A touch of hay to begin with. A fair few transitions between sweet and sour notes in this one. Dark fruits with subtle spices and high carbonation to help it flow. Not bad but was expecting a little more

Bottle. 22.5 oz. (2007). One of the first real craft beers I remember trying. Drank this Belgian Strong with Pat and Sean. Popped the cork and the aroma immediately smacked me in the nose. Bouquet of spices, malts, caramel, and dark cherries, figs, and plums. Thick, beige head, almost solid. Firm body, creamy texture, and a magical finish. A truly epic brew enjoyed by surprise on a sunny afternoon. Highly, highly recommended.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 michaelinwa (205) - Bothell, Washington, USA - MAY 9, 2012
Pours a light-medium brown, lots and lots of head, due to high carbonation. Aroma is nice, malt and complex fruit. Flavor has subtle complex notes of fruits, mostly raising and date, but it’s not a big flavor; a light touch than I was expecting. There is a bit more hop bitterness in this than expected but it balanced and by no means overwhelming. This a good Belgian strong ale, although maybe a bit lighter than I prefer. I would probably opt for Urthel Samaranth instead, but there is nothing wrong with this beer.

Thanks to Chipalsa for this one. Nose is winter spice, some Belgian yeast, caramel and dark malts, dark fruits. Nice and bold. I got some slight funk and spice in the taste with more yeasty notes, some candied sugar, dark fruits, and goodness. Great stuff. Body was dark brown with tons of yeast swimming around in the glass.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Chipalsa (704) - Florida, USA - APR 15, 2012
This Belgian strong had a nice, deep ruby red body with silky lacing. The thick scent, full of candied sugar and yeast, reminded me of a bakery. Flavors were, of course, yeasty, but with some brown sugar and fig in the mix as well. As it warms up some toffee and hops come out in the finish and balance quite nicely. Pretty damn good and an even better drinker at 10%.
