COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
“Schlenkerla Helles” is brewed with fine Bavarian aroma hops from the area around the city of Nürnberg. It’s lagered in century old caves underneath the historic Schlenkerla brewery and maltings. Schlenkerla Helles is boiled in the same copper kettles and bottom fermented by the same yeast as the historic Schlenkerla Smokebeer. Its subtle smokiness without using smoke malt makes “Helles Schlenkerla Lager” a unique representative of the classic lager beer style “Bavarian Helles”. Editor’s note: Since this is not intended as a smoked beer, and is not billed as such, it has been classed here as a Helles, despite some samples having residual smoke character.

Bottle. Clear golden with medium off-white head. Aroma is malt, little smoke and a little grainy. Flavour is malt, little smoke, little meat, little sweet, little grainy and a little bitter.

Bottle enjoyed at home
Golden, white head. Smells of dust, grass, malts and tiny hints of smoke. Nice malty flavor, good sweetness. Dry on the palate as a german lager should be and a nice grassy hoppy finish

Bottle from Bottleworks. Hazy orange, well, diaphanous appearance, with a hazy orange color. Wispy head.Aroma is nice and woody. Sublte smoke, with a honey aroma, and touches of caramel malt. Fucking amazingly nuanced, and lovely to smell. Initial flavor is smoke, wood, and light honey. Caramel dips in and out. Nice lingering light bitterness, with that wood and smoke carrying on. I can really taste both the wood and smoke in this one. One of the best beers in all of the mother fucking universe. I say that, and I have yet to venture into other galaxies where the production and consumption of beer may or may not exist.

Mini keg courtesy of TheCheeseman. Pours yellow and clear with a nice white head floating on top. The aroma hints at more smoke than is actually there, light, doughy, and some citrus. Easy to drink and easy to love, with a nice amount of crisp bitterness for the style and light smoke.

Bottle from Meny Grønland. Pours slightly hazy golden with a big white head. Sweet, malty and somewhat fruity without much bitterness. Just a hint of smoke. Slightly bitter finish.
