COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
English-style Old Ale. Hibernation Ale is Colorado’s original strong ale -- it has been Great Divide’s winter seasonal each year since 1995. Hibernation’s massive flavors are so intense that it requires over three months of aging each year. This lengthy aging process gives Hibernation its revered malty richness, complex hop profile and hearty warming character, which is perfect right out of the bottle or cellared for longer periods of time.

Perfect aroma, chocolate is strong. Nice head... maintains well. Nice malty wonderfullness. Slight bitter, doesn’t seem sweet... seems perfect. Which makes it perfect on the palet. Overall this is one of the jewels i’ve found as of late! It does build in bitter overtime, which I wish it didn’t.

Deep ruby color with a big thick head. A little lacing. Aroma of fruit. A little sweet. Creamy mouth with a mild taste. Some sugary notes. A little grass as well.

En 2010 julöl. Det bästa julölet hittills i år. Mycket kraftiga och juliga smaker. Balanserat och behagligt. Eftersmak som ger mersmak.

2nd bottle of my 4th July American evening (2008). Poured into a Westmalle trappist chalice. Deep Ruby red, dull until held up to the light, then you could really appreciate the clearness and true shades of the colour. A light tan head soon faded away to a thin scummy covering. Smell of dark chocolate, roasted malts and coffee beans, all blending together to produce an interesting and well balance aroma. Tasted of slightly burnt brown sugar on toast, with plums on top. Coffee appears in the aftertaste and the alcohol could be felt lerking in the background all the time. The hops also come into play, along with a peat fire type of infusion. Impressed and a lot better than the Yeti I opened the evening with (in my opinion).

From notes: Poured ruby red-amber, with a small, thin tan head. Aroma of piney hops and some spice, with a note of caramel malt in the background. Medium-thick, with a slight oilyness. Flavor of piney hops up front, giving way to a note of spice, followed by caramel malt in the finish. Nice lingering, spicy hop nte.

Originally reviewed: 3/3/09. Pours a deep mahogany with a massive bubbling tan head that spills all over my counter. Great retention paired with beautiful sticky lacing. Smells of nuts, some coffee, vanilla, and malt. Decent. Mouthfeel is weak and watery. For a "big" beer like this, it is disappointing. Decent carbonation, just too slick. Taste is a big wallop of nuttiness that I was not expecting. Some of the bitter walnut aftertaste in there. I’m also getting some raisin, booze, and slight spiciness. Not bad. I’m glad I got this, and I’d most likely get it again next winter, but I wouldn’t drink more than 1 at a time.

355 ml bottle. Oulu, Finland. Dark copper colour with small off-white head. Malt, caramel, toffee, wood and malty sweetness in aroma. Dark malt, cocoa, some hoppy bitterness, mild roastedness and woody dryness. Nice winter warmer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This beer tastes like Earl Grey or Chamomile tea. Aroma is hoppy and somewhat minty and it pours a beautiful coppery ruby body with a decent tan head. Taste is spicy, malty and hoppy with hints of peppermint, pine and those herby tastes in hot, black teas. Can’t stop sipping this beer to sift through it.

35,5 cl bottle @ Olutravintola Konttori, BBE 05.10.2012
Aroma is fruity and sweet with malt, some cocoa and hints of resin. Flavour has american hops, some cocoa, vanilla and fruits. Surprisingly thin palate. American DIPA meets old ale and the results are nice but a bit too sweet for me. The sweetness doesn’t disturb as much as it does with some DIPAs.
