Commercial Description:
Strong brown ale inspired by the beer brewed by Belgian Trappist monks. Very little bitterness, this beer has intense malty and sweet flavours, mixed with the taste of chocolate and caramel. It presents complex red fruit and spice flavours due to the type of yeast that is used during the brewing process. This beer is at its best only after it has aged for six months. The Rigor Mortis are complex beers designed and brewed with patience and care in the tradition of the great Belgian Abbey beers.

Rigor Mortis Abt is brewed only once a year, and is sold in April until stocks last.

Pours a orangeish brown with a big head and good lace. The aroma is of pear cherry alcohol with spicy yeast notes and a general sweetness. The flavor is of apple, brandy, nutty, with some pear and a light hop bitterness. There are light notes of brown sugar and the alcohol is quite warming. Not a ton to report here except to say that this is absolutely delicious. .

Pours a dark, but clear brown with a wonderful aroma. The taste is sweet and incredibly malty and nutty but not overpowering. A lovely drink both alone and with food. Great for chilly weather, but I think I could drink this at any time during the year.

Pours a dark brown with a tan head. Rich caramel aroma. Flavor is loaded with caramel and dark fruits, raisin, plum, fig. It’s a pretty sweet beer (my only complaint really, a bit too sweet) and finishes with a nice alcohol warmth. Quite tasty--a nice choice for my 500th rating!

Bottle. A sweet caramel and some brown sugar on the nose. Dark body with off white head. Sweet spicey fruits with the caramel in the background. Little alcohol on last swig, seems to have mellowed out a bit.

Bottle. Pours hazy brown with a small, rocky light brown head, somewhat diminishing with fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (caramel, cookie, toasted grain, toffee), average hop (perfume), average yeast (dough) with notes of alcohol, plum, date, port, fig, and wood. Full bodied, alcoholic texture, average carbonation, and an astringent finish. Long duration, moderate sweetness and bitterness, heavy acidity.
