COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Strong brown ale inspired by the beer brewed by Belgian Trappist monks. Very little bitterness, this beer has intense malty and sweet flavours, mixed with the taste of chocolate and caramel. It presents complex red fruit and spice flavours due to the type of yeast that is used during the brewing process. This beer is at its best only after it has aged for six months. The Rigor Mortis are complex beers designed and brewed with patience and care in the tradition of the great Belgian Abbey beers.

Rigor Mortis Abt is brewed only once a year, and is sold in April until stocks last.

11.5oz btl. marked 0 5. Pours cloudy light brown with a sexy thin head leaving light lacing. This beer’s colder than I would prefer which dampens the aroma but still has a sweet malt sugary light vanilla nose. Tastes vibrant up front mellowing to candied sugars, light tartness from the yeast, smooth mild chocolate flavor and finishes with a bit of alcohol. For this beer... it will pack your bags for you because it’s going to take you for a ride.

12oz bottle brought back from Igloofest wkend in Mtl. Awesome, mirky, muddy yellow-brown pour with a heavy load of sediment that hangs in suspension. Aroma is funky, yeasty and malty. Flavor is rich with belgian yeast, malt and a spicy sort of funk. Some caramel. Really full-bodied and complex. Not a huge aftertaste at all.

341ml bottle pours a reddish brown color with a small off-white head that leaves a few spots of lacing. Aroma is dark fruits and chocolate with hints of yeast. Taste is a roasted malty bitterness with some chocolate and dark fruit sweetness and hints of yeast and mild hops. This beer is quite complex and hides the alcohol quite well and is nicely balanced. Highly recommended.

Strong beer with some some dominant tastes of caramel, alcohol and malt yet some subtle tastes filtering through as well. It is very smooth for a 10.5% ABV beer. If one drinks it fast it leaves a strong but pleasant impression though maybe a bit sweet. If one drinks it slow one can appreciate the fine tastes contained within this beer.

Une tonne de pruneaux, figues et dattes caramélises. Le chocolat s’imbrique subtilement dans le profil également. La finition est assez sèche. Un classique qui mérite de dormir dans le cellier.

[Rated 06/29/2010] Bottle. Pours caramel brown with a thin head that quickly dissolves. Aroma is of raisins and honey with some grapefruit maybe. It has a flavor of honey with grapefruit bitterness, maybe some spices. Not a bad beer, but not quite for my palate.

11.5 ounce bottle into chalice, batch 15(or something). Pours cloudy dark brown color with a small light khaki head with good retention that reduces to a thin cap. Some small bits of lacing on the glass. Aromas of big plums, molasses, chocolate, caramel, candi sugar, bread, raisins, and a bit of yeast spices and light alcohol. Very nice and well balanced aromas. Taste of big chocolate, caramel, biscuit, toasted malt, molasses, dark fruit, herbal spiciness, pepper, and spicy alcohol. Lingering notes of chocolate, caramel, molasses, dark fruit, and a bit of alcohol on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a fairly creamy mouthfeel. Drinkability is limited due to some booziness but it is a pretty nice sipper. Alcohol is noticeable, but not too bad. Overall this is a pretty nice Quadrupel. Some good flavor complexity and balance. If it was a bit less boozy I probably would have liked it more.

Bottle. Pours a dark clear red with an offwhite head. Smells of raisin, toffee. Tastes intensely of brown sugar and roasted malt. Heavy sweetness, with a medium tartness of dried red berries, and some peppery aftertaste. Medium body. Light to medium carbonation. Sugary smooth texture. Finishes sweet with raisins.
