Poured a black color with a moderate to large frothy brown head that lasted and produced sticky layers excellent lacing. Heavy roasted malt, licorice, dark fruit and woody bourbon aroma. Full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Heavy complex dark sweet stout flavor with a heavy smooth dark fruit bourbon woody finish. Very well balanced complex barrel stout. This is a standout beer.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 _angst_ (1796) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - MAY 5, 2013
355 ml bottle received in trade. Thank you Aaron! Pours viscous pitch black with a thin dark mocha head that quickly dissipates without leaving any trace on the glass. Smell is sweet with roasted malts, bourbon, vanilla fudge, high quality dark chocolate, alcohol, charred wood, toffee, burnt caramel, coconut, sweetened dark roast coffee, cookies, fresh oak and hints of hay and moist soil. Taste is sweet, bitter and salty with heavily roasted malts, soy sauce, bourbon, salty liquorice, raisins in rum, burnt cookies, dark roast coffee, sweet dark bread, vanilla fudge, coconut, alcohol, fresh oak, caramel, prunes, dark chocolate, burnt sugar, orange zest and molasses. Mouthfeel is round, sticky sweet, soft, boozy and full bodied. Finish is sweet, bitter and salty with roasted malts, dark chocolate, vanilla fudge, bourbon, charred wood, burnt raisins and hints of coconut milk. Unbalanced and a bit too salty but still quite nice.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 AirForceHops (1922) - Epping, New Hampshire, USA - APR 28, 2013
12 oz bottle with a date of Mar 27, 2012. Nothing like a BA stout at noon! Snifter displays thick oily, black with brown around the edges. Aroma is totally rich bourbon. Flavor is heavy woody bourbon, dark fruits, cherry notes. Strong and heavy whiskey notes. Also a light coffee bitterness. Body is full with a heavy texture that coats the inside of your mouth. The alcohol presence is known but not terrible for 17%. Overall I say if you really like bourbon, you will really enjoy this stout.
4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20 adamah (88) - - APR 20, 2013
Quite an intense beer. The flavor is very very sweet but not cloyingly so. There is a lot of warmth from the alcohol but the beer doesn’t taste boozy. The body is a thick black and has a very thick syrupy mouth feel.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 bmerz (490) - Brooklyn, New York, USA - APR 11, 2013
Bottle....going on a year old. Pours an opaque brown with no head and lots of legs. The aroma is a potent blast of bourbon, raisins, light vanilla, deep roasted malt, soy. The flavor is sweet but salty with more umami, some spice, lots of wood, bourbon. Texture is sticky and full but gritty with alcohol and wood. Quite intense but well balanced all the same. Great bourbon stout!

Thanks to Janet for bringing this one to Tuesday beer share at Craft Ale House. Poured thick jet black with tan head that dissipates rapidly, as one would expect. The nose is a complex medley of oaky bourbon, roasty dark malt, cacao, vanilla, molasses of the blackstrap variety. Tastes thich, rich, with a lot of flavors going on, with the oaky bourbon and roasty dark malt taking center stage, and the vanilla, cacao, molasses, and walnut as the supporting cast. This one is great.
4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 Braudog (5060) - Hampton, Virginia, USA - MAR 12, 2013
Bottle. Pours like old motor oil, slimy and pitch black, with barely a froth to speak of. The aroma is simply daunting -- boiling over with thick alcohol and oak. This drinks with a BIG, rich, chocolate-laden swirl, burning with just the right amount of whiskey oak. Wow, and double wow. Brilliant! (#4957, 3/12/2013)
4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 RamyG4 (238) - , New Jersey, USA - MAR 11, 2013
Bottle. Pours a silky pitch black with a small-medium brown head. Aroma is bourbon, coffee, chocolate, caramel, molasses. Taste is very sweet, not a lot of bitterness, with tons of bourbon. The alcohol is certainly felt but not tasted. Finish is sweet and a little roasty. Super full body, soft carbonation, smooth mouth feel. It’s needless to say, but this is a huge beer, a great sipper over the course of an hour or two.

12oz bottle. Pours a dark, oily brown. Aroma of strong molasses, brown sugar, raisin, bourbon, peat, alcohol. Flavor of molasses, caramel, wine, raisin, peat, wood, vanilla, brown sugar. Oily with no head.
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 DrSilverworm (2969) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - FEB 28, 2013
12oz bottle, bought from Beer Run in Virginia for $12. Batch 1, bottled 3/27/12. Black color. Awesome thin dark brown head. Little bits of lace everywhere. Amazing aroma. Big vanilla, bourbon barrel; some chocolate brownie and roasted malt. With a beer this big, my first thought often is "how harsh is the alcohol?". For 17.5, this is amazingly sippable. No burn, just a big warmth. You notice big alcohol, but there’s a fantastic flavor throughout the whole thing to back it up (that is much like what I described in the aroma, but more alcoholic). Big body, pretty chewy. Viscous for sure. Silky is right. Light stickiness in the finish, but I don’t mind it at all. Part of that super-long vanilla roasty bitter chocolate warming aftertaste. Great sweet taste, with a bitter finish. This beer is nuts. If it wasn’t $12 a bottle, this would be a regular choice for me. Very likely, the tastiest brew I’ve had over 17% ABV. Love it.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Leighton (7180) - London, ENGLAND - FEB 10, 2013
Bottle shared at CBC - Clerkenwell, London. Many thanks to Seth for sharing! Pours oily black with a creamy, tan head. Aroma holds alcohol, dark malts, roasted malts, burnt toast, rich chocolate. Big sweet flavor with robust bittersweet chocolate, moderate roast, a bit of alcohol punch, brown bread. Full bodied with fine carbonation and a chewy mouthfeel. Warm finish with oily chocolate, dirt, brownies, raisins, decent roast, rich chocolate cake. Awesome. Great depth. A hell of a beer.
