COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Jacob Spears, our 6th Great Grand Uncle, is credited as the first distiller to label his whiskey "Bourbon." He built his distillery in Bourbon County, Kentucky in 1790 - 203 years before began brewing. While obviously a bit too late to produce Uncle Jacobís wash, weíve instead created something far more complex. In his honor, we present this robust, silky smooth, full-bodied and altogether extremely American rendition of an Imperial Stout aged for 6 months in the very finest bourbon barrels. This explains a lot about our penchant for big brews! Itís in our blood!
Brewed with Rocky Mountain Water, Malter Barley, Flaked Oats, Hops and Yeast.

12oz bottle: Pours a rich obsidian with a small creamy dark beige head. Has a dense, sweet dark caramel and chocolate nose with lots of bourbon oak and vanilla complexity. Starts with chewy viscosity, fine carbonation and dark malty sweetness with notes of raisins and molasses combined with a healthy amount of bourbon before a semi-sweet and smooth finish that hides the alcohol surprisingly well. Loaded with complexity, one of the best bourbon-barrel-aged imperial stouts Iíve had.

12 oz. Pour is midnight black with a small ring of bubbles. Nose is raisin liqueur, oak, soy and chocolate. Tastes of mint chocolate, alcohol, raisin and toasted grain. Heavy body is decently balanced and has low-medium carbonation. The big abv is fairly well hidden. Pretty straightforward aroma and flavors are none too complex, but the effort to make a huge beer is duly noted.

Note: was surprised to find I hadnít rated this yet, despite having drunk this. Was able to back-track it to the correct notebook, thanks to my line-up pictures of tastings on Facebook. :p
Clear dark brown to black beer, small creamy beige head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: caramel, lots of chocolate, chocolate milk, bit of vanilla, nutty touch. MF: ok carbon, full body. Taste: dark chocolate, caramel, little sourish, sugary and sweet as well, mocha, bourbon, dried fruits, raisins, brown sugar. After-taste: sweet, lots of dried fruits, molasses, dark chocolate, mocha, soft bitterness, bit boozy, sourish touch. Lovely beer!!

Bottle shared by a friend. Darkest brown pour with a thick tan head. Aroma of bourbon, alcohol, chocolate and roast. Boozy flavor with chocolate and roast before a bourbon finish. Bourbon is the most prevalent character in both the nose and the flavor, but at least the beer is big enough to stand up to the barrel and throw off its own characteristics. Certainly not barrel-aged coca-cola like a lot of attempts from other breweries that arenít as experienced with barrel-aging.

12oz bottle. Pours dark black with almost no head. Rich malty boozy aroma. Strong bourbon flavor with some molasses and faint dark fruit. Really amazing beer. Gets more boozy as it warms.

Bottle. Murky, muddy brown-black with a large-bubbled head of milk chocolate. Sugary, tangy aroma: dark cherry, molasses, butterscotch, blackberry, maple, vanilla, dulce le leche. Fruitier than expected. The flavor replicates this bouquet, with dark chocolate covered maraschino cherries, dark berries, maple, vanilla, oak and a hint of burnt toast. Itís an incredible blend, and the alcohol is negligible. Mild, tingly carbonation. Some alcohol heat is noticeable, naturally. Creamy medium-full body is a bit oily and sticks on the tongue. Nice berry flavors in this one -- itís fruitier and tangier than I expected, which is what makes it great. Very smooth.

A lot of bourbon and sweet. Very strong and heavy. You get roasted malt and dark chocolate mostly. But there definitely is coffee there as well as some fruit flavors that are somewhat surprising and almost hard to find even. I love the bourbon barrel beers and this one is outstanding.

Bottle at the Ultimate Imperial Stout Tasting, shared by beerlover_ben. Pours depe brown to black, beige head. Nice roasted and lots of mocca hints. Alcohol is fairly hidden.
