4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Pours a rosy red with an itty bitty virile head. Aroma of vanilla, oak, sherry, caramel and molasses. Mmm smooth, balanced bizness flavors. Massive tannin overload when cold, but let this sucker warm up and you will be treated with a gift of heavenly proportions. Sherry, figs, caramel, vanilla, and a boat load of oaky tannins caress the tongue without destroying it. Man do those tannins smooth out. Iím going to buy a case of this and age it par the packaging recommends. Iíve imparted in the likes of properly aged Thomas Hardy, Ola Dubh and Lees Harvest Ale, and this is as good if not better than all of them. This is one of those beers you can not pass up but make sure you let it warm up.

Two of my favorite breweries! Best after date was 4/30/2013 and I drank it on 4/19/2014. Smells amazing, cloudy dark brown with very small light head. Aroma is tart with a little bit of smokey cherry and wine. Taste is sweet and then followed with oak, cherries, wine and maybe some borboun flavor. Lingering taste is very easy. Thanks to my friend back in portland, or for sending me this.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from trade. Best after 4/30/13 poured on 4/14/14. Thanks! Pours murky brown with a small creamy khaki head on top. Sour apples, caramel, oak, bourbon, toffee, red wine, booze. Bourbon caramel cherry green apples here? Quite a flavor here. There is definitely a dark sourness from the Deschutes brews, and yet plenty of Fred and nutty figgy toffee caramel remains. Vanilla and bourbon are mellow and accent the many flavors here. Definitely a dry oak presence to finish and some vinous and sherry notes to boot. Big full sticky mouthfeel with plenty of carbonation. My taste buds are so confused. What a weird combination of beers, yet enjoyable. Like a sour barrel aged English barleywine, except way better than that sounds.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Visual: Pours cloudy pale beer bottle brown with almost no head, thin ringed retention, several very slow streams.
Nose: Soy sauced malts with some fishiness. (lvl-5)-pungency
Attack: dense tangy-sour malts
Mid-palate: (lvl-8)-dense sweetness, medium sour/tangy, (MAIN) sweet malts, brown sugar/candi sugar, mild soy sauce, red wine grapiness + acidity
Finish: oaked malts, soft bitter sweet malted hopped finish.
Summary: Hmm.. normally I love barrel-aged beers but Iím not quite sold on this one. The acidity/sourness doesnít quite balance out nicely with the brown sugar malts. I must say the high ABV is well hidden though.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Brown murky body, small head. Aromatic and interesting with farmhouse kind if yeast, raisin, woody, aging, concentrated and complex grain bill. Hops to balance and tease. A very big beer and I really like it, even though you would only drink this when in the mood for a strong taster. Like now. (33cl bottle courtesy of and shared with Simon of La Cave ŗ Bulles many thanks!)

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 oz bottle, best after 4/30/13, bought 5/17/12. Pours hazy reddish amber with a small creamy off white head that goes to a thin film that laces the glass.
The aroma is some oxidized sherry with some fruity oak and alcohol.
The flavor is figgy vinous fruits, vanilla, oak and some strong alcohol and slight oxidation. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with smooth carbonation.
Overall, aging helped this one. A nice flavorful aged beer - tastes like an older English barleywine.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
From bottle bought summer of 2012, with Best After 4/30/13 designation. Deep brown color with amber hue and little to no head. Aroma is dark cherry, oak, yeast, smoke, and prune, with some tartness. Taste is black cherry, prune, Belgian candi sugar, oaked smokiness, bourbon, molasses, and tart yeast. For a blend of so many beers, it mixes well. Very mellow warming finish for such a big beer.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Very nice muddied brown coloured body with a thin, oily tan head that fades fast and some nice deep copper and brown tints when held up to a light. Aroma of a ridiculous amount of complex notes, mostly sugars. Oak, sour grapes, cherries, vanilla, pit fruits, raisins, figs, earthy malt, caramel and licorice are all noticeable. Medium to Full-bodied; Very complex flavour as well with some minor sour notes starting it off showing cherries and grapes then changing to a large alcohol and caramelised sugar flavour with figs, brown sugar, earth, toffee and a little vanilla at the end. Aftertaste is very nice with the warming hit of the alcohol all with the complexities throughout, also showing some light spices at the end and a hint of oak and bourbon. Overall, a very nice beer - iím glad I gave it some time, it seems to be quite mellow and very complex throughout. Definitely worth getting if you can find it and of course, if you can afford it - this isnít cheap, and it flew with me all the way back from Honolulu, but this was easily worth the price and the ~5000mile journey back home and into my stomach. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Liqour Collection in Honolulu, Hawaii on 10-December-2012 for US$13.95 sampled at home in Washington on the opposite end of this fine country on 23-January-2014.
