Few times in the history of craft beer it has happened that a highly praised beer rises beyond mortal stardom into a higher godly league. Usually the recipe to make such heavenly drops is thick fudge-like body, pitch black color, amazingly overwhelming aromas of chocolate, coffee, dark fruits and muscovado sugar, obviously only made in limited amounts and most crucial of all – it must taste rare!

Bottle split with mcberko. Pours a gorgeous solid black with a caramel tan head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malts, some burnt espresso, and caramel notes. Flavour is intensely roasted yet also sweet in the right places, with hints of vanilla and plum. An exact collision of mcberko and my favourite aspects of a good Imp. Stout...he likes them intensely roasted, I like them a little sweeter. Wow. This is viscous, rich, creamy, smooth, beautifully balanced, perfect carbonation. Yum! Poured lightly chilled - I bet it is more flavourful a tad warmer - if I can make it last long enough! Rare :P

750ml bottle shared with Guillaume. Aroma: dark chocolate but a bit on the paraffine side, ashes. App: really dark brown, almost black, minimal moka head, not much retention, good lacing. Taste and palate: medium to full body, ashes again in mouth, medium bitter finish. Overall: good stuff. Maybe a less ashes would make it more accessible but it’s pretty good. Good chocolate aroma and taste.

Aroma dark chocolate quite much vanilla. Alcohol well hidden. Thick. Light bitterness, not sweet. Good but not exceptional.

Black and full-bodied. Rich roasted malt aroma and flavour, with vanilla notes. Pungent sweet taste with medium bitterness. Hides the alcohol very well. Overall, very good. Too sweet to rate higher, though. It becomes cloying at the end.

Piana beżowa, trwała, ładnie zdobi szkło. Aromat deserowej czekolady, trochę ciemnych słodów, leciutko wychodzi alkohol. Jest nawet lekko owocowy. Dość gęste, ale nie jakoś super wyklejające. W smaku czekoladowe, palone. Czekoladowy finisz. Super ukryty alkohol, jak na tę 12%. Może przydałoby się nieco więcej głębi, ale to wciąż całkiem przyjemny ris.

Can into a shaker showing pitch black with a finger of latte colored foam. The nose shows a light lactose sweetness throughout but a dark chocolate forwardness with a lot of intense roasted malts. The palate is highly carbonated and smooth bodied. Intense flavors of roasted malts with big hints of dark chocolate. Light caramel and lactose sweetness appears upon warming up on the mid palate. Lightly hoppy but a big roasted bitterness on the finish. Well done.

660ml bottle served in snifter glass. Purchased at La Mise en Bière - Lausanne.
A: Pours a beautiful absolutely black oiled color forming a small and very solid beige head with good retention and some spotty lacings left in the glass.
S: Sweet, roasted and very fruity nose. Strong notes of roasted malts, dry plums, vanilla, licorice, oak, chestnut, black chocolate, coffee beans, sweet bread, EARTH, toffee and capuccino. Light notes of grassy hops.
T: Sweet upfront. Again, strong notes of notes of roasted malts, dry plums, vanilla, licorice, oak, chestnut, black chocolate, coffee beans, sweet bread, earth, toffee, candi sugar and cappuccino. Becomes quickly quite bitter. Great hoppy and roasted mix. Great bittersweet balance. Grassy hops profile.
M: Heavy body. Creamy and molasses. Looks like black oil. Medium to low carbonation. Roasted, grassy and very molasses aftertaste. Candi sugar.
O: Excellent drinkability. Masterpiece Imperial Stout.

Draft, served in 20 cl tulip. Pours black with a moderate dark tan head with moderate retention. Aromas of roasted malts, chocolate and alcohol. Initial taste of malts, chocolate and coffee, but it is mostly sweet with little bitterness - not even from the coffee. The aftertaste moves around in the same territory, but has a seemingly more profound booziness. Undoubtedly a well-made, good and drinkable beer, but too sweet and boozy to be really balanced. Cleeeeearly overrated.
