22 oz. bottle. Bottle 101/817. Black pour with a coffee colored head. Aroma of chocolate with the burn of chillies. Notes of cognac, booze, fruit, boozy fruitiness. There are some mild notes of coffee, cherries. Flavor is sweet chocolate and heat from the peppers. The chillies burn your lips a bit. Strong, boozy sweetness from the cognac. Notes of grapes, coffee, chocolate. I keep coming back to the heat on this beer. Much more impressive that the previous de muerte DL. Thick, oily palate with heat in the finish. This is the truth. Easily one of the best barrel aged varient if not the best barrel aged varient of Dark Lord Iíve ever had. Stunning.

650ml bottle

2012 vintage, red wax, bottle #786/817 - Pours pitch black with no head. Aroma of berries, roasty malts, molasses, spices, hints of wood, oak and hints of brandy. Taste is sweet, sticky and heavy with some soy sauce, spices, berries, ripe apples, brandy, wood, oak, molasses and syrup. Finish is sweet, heavy and syrupy with some hints of peppers, berries, wood and ripe apples. Quite heavy and sweet, not that much cognac here, but the chilies keep on warming nicely.

75 cl bottle vintage 2012 (red vax) @ home. Bottle 786/817. Thanks Jason!
Aroma has some salty licorice and mild spicy tones. Flavour has mild chili burn, licorice, some coffee and hints of rubbery tones. Also quite strong berry tones. Cognac is quite well hidden, it apperars as sweet stickiness in the finish. Chili notes get a bit stronger after some sips. Rather thin for a 15% ABV beer Ė and hides the ABV very well. Yet the alcohol does not disturb. Not bad and nothing disturbing here, but nothing special either.

75 cl bottle. Bottle No 786/816. Red wax. 2012 vintage.
Pours pitch black color with a small beige head. Mild hops on the nose, dark chocolate, roast, cocoa, espresso and vanilla. Flavor is vanilla, coffee, brown sugar, very subtle with the cognac notes, syrup sweetness and more vanilla. More berries start to appear as the beer warms up, as does the chili, strawberry and black berries. Velvety smooth palate, carbonation is low. Nice but not mind-blowing.

Bottle 758/817 at Jamesís for a tasting with Hackobock. Pours a deep black with a thin tan head. Smells of burnt peppers, cocoa, chocolate. Medium bodied, sweet and full of raisins. Big spicy pepper, incredibly sweet. Long pepper, unpleasantly sweet. Long and sweet, big raisin and gross molasses. Too sweet and very weird. How did this happen? Terrible.

UPDATED: AUG 17, 2015 Bottle shared with Phil and Jacob - Pours black tan head. Nose/taste of cognac, oak, hot chili pepper, compost, alpo dog food, soy sauce and molasses - full body. I usually love pepper imperial stouts. Not this one.

Bottle shared by Pavlov Badzewski. Colour...basic black with no head. Nose...massively peppery but the sweet malty aspect helps temper the pepper nicely! Palate...ooooooo! Tingly! Is it the CO2? Nope! The peppers!! Just the right amount of peppery burn ( faint burn) and flavour coupled with a Tootsie Roll chocolate and ganache. The finish is long and sweet with that subtle pepper burn. Nice!

Bottle from trade through Sean9689. 2012 edition. It pours opaque black with a small brown head. The aroma is the classic Dark Lord with chocolate and sweet roasted malts along with dark sugars and oat. Sweet roasted and high spicy chili flavor. Lots of milk chocolate and soy combined with hops and some herbal thing from the chili. Cream like palate. Heavy stuff!!

Trade from sean9689 Thanks buddy. Black body with a tiny light brown head. Chocolate, roasted malt, green pepper, light coffee notes. Flavor is spicy, hot chilli peppers, chocolate, roasted malt, coffee. Chili burning aftertaste. Really complex with the traditional Dark Lord sweetness. It gets better. Iím still not a big fan of Chili in beers.
