COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
When Central Waters decided to open its brew house for its first collaboration beer, Chicagoís Local Option was the obvious partner in crime. The resulting brainchild, Bourbon Barrel Aged La Petite Mort Ė a Belgian inspired Weissenbock Ė maintains the traditional characteristics of its Bavarian forbearer, with the added complexity of Belgian ale yeast. BBA La Petite Mort is dark amber in color; maintains a rich, full-bodied mouth-feel augmented by caramel; mild and dark fruit; and vanilla and bourbon aromas as a result of six months of aging on Heaven Hill Barrels.. Rounded out by an unostentatious bourbon driven aroma from brief bourbon barrel aging, BBA La Petite Mort is a complex ale, a marriage of distinctive styles, and an orgasmic experience for the taste buds that revel in its glory.

Bomber - very solid malt bomb offering. Black pour with off white head. Nose of malt, barrel, and vanilla. Taste follows the nose with some roast notes. Not sure what time will do to this one. Fresh seems to be working well. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

bottle, this thing sucked. It was cloying sweet barleywine esque. Nothing enjoyable at all. Barf.

Aftertaste: bit sourish, vanilla, caramel, alcohol, soft bitterness, grassy touch, more alcohol, bourbon, vanilla, little thin in texture.

Bottle pours a murky brown with no real head or lacing. Aromas of caramel, leather, oak, bourbon, and vanilla with hints of fruit. Flavor is full bodied with a mild cocoa bitterness, slight oily mouth feel, and alcohol in the finish. Tasty.

Bottle @ RBBWG, thanks Benzai! Orange colour, almost no head. Soft carbonation. Sweet malty, notes of bourbon, vanilla and dark sugar. Some fruitiness. Ok but too sweet.

Thanks to Benzai! 655 ml. bottle sampled @ RBBWG IV. Dark brown, little mocha. Nose is sweet bourbon, soy sauce, light booze, touch too much umami for me. Taste is lightly metallic bourbon, herbal, vanilla, oak, lots of bourbon but it feels like the base beer was way too weak / not very interesting. Herbal malt body. Not orgasmic but the bourbon is thick enough for this to be enjoyable.

Bottle @ RBBWG 2015 shared by me. Superb dark brown to black color, medium sized light brown head. Aroma is malts, bourbon, awesome awesome shit, no words for this. Fucking incredible. Taste malts, bourbon, roast, bitter. A little more thin texture as to what I had expected, but very very nice.

1 pint 6 oz bottle, poured into a tulip glass at approximately 40 degrees F. Appearance: Pours the color of molten caramel, and pools into the glass a deep, dark brown, bordering on black save for the light that gets through around the edges. Forms virtually no head, save for a ring of pale tan foam that sits atop the beer. Smell: Bourbon barrel notes are the primary aroma, heavy on the vanilla-caramel aspects, with some of the woodiness. Lurking beneath, thereís a malty sweetness, with toffee-esque tinges. Taste: This drinks smooth, with almost no hint of the ABV at all. The bourbon mixes with the beer in a way that presents both chocolate and vanilla flavors at the opening, rounded off with hints of caramelly booze and oak. As it warms, thereís an almost cola-like sweetness that emerges beneath the barrel notes, and some faint, very faint, shadows of dark fruit lurking far off in the distance, like shy nerdy kids peeking in the door to the prom, wondering if they should walk in or just go home and play some World of Warcraft. While itís not at all bad, itís not exactly a particularly complex Belgian strong. Mouthfeel: Slick and relatively thin, verging towards watery, the feel may have influenced my perception of the "cola" sweetness. There is next to no carbonation, however, just enough to keep the beer from feeling flat. Overall: For a bourbon barrel aged beer, this is not bad at all - 9% with little to no alcohol taste and heat is a plus in my book, and the flavor profile is interesting. As a Belgian Strong, well...this isnít one. If it was, the essence of it was lost during aging, leaving behind just a sweet, smooth, bourbony beer. Hence, I am torn on how to rate this. I would pick this up again on occasion, as I enjoyed it, but it fits the style about as well as a blower for a í57 Chevy fits a Bop-It. Since I prefer rating to stylistic elements over personal enjoyment, I am going to go that route, with the disclaimer that this is still a tasty barrel-aged beer - just not a Belgian Strong, per se.
