4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Tap at Mikkeller Bar. I am not a huge fan of barrel aged impy stouts, but this one might change my mind. Unique aroma! Very thick, very sweet, very peaty, heavy whiskey notes that you can smell all the y from the tap till the glass hits your table. The tequila is more evident in the flavor and the whiskey a little more subdued. Notes of caramel, heavy roast, dark malts, alcohol, preserved dark fruits, licorice, wood. Finishes medium bitter with a little acidity and a nice touch of tequila and peat. Huge one. Impressed.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
375 ml bottle.
Pours very dark red, practically black color with a minimal, rapidly dissipating off-white head. With the very first sniff you know we are dealing with a massive beer here; soy and rubbery notes come through first, followed by some strong alcohol, the mild bourbon and wooden notes round up the otherwise aggressive aroma at some level.
Flavor is very intense with soy, salty licorice, roasted malts, tar, alcohol (obviously), vanilla and dark, somewhat milky chocolate, tequila is very faint but it is there, leans more to the whiskey side. Extremely oily texture, oily and burnt chocolaty palate, very short aftertaste with some ash, the warming alcohol burn is very long though. An extreme winter warmer. Not overly sweet, the alcohol dominates here a bit too much as was expected.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours opaqur black with a very tiny head if you try hard enough. Aroma has dark roasted malts, somehow blackberries and black currants. Also some vanilla notes, chocolate, dry wood and some dark dried fruits. You can also feel a sweet alcoholic note in the nose. Taste is surprisingly soft, dry wood, dark dried fruits, dark berries, savory, raisin, soy, gun powder, hard roasted malts and warmin alcohol.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours slight transparent black with a fizzy cokeish head. Actually looks like coke. Aroma of berries, chocolate, alcohol and burned sugar. The taste is very dry and bitter with coffee, wood and alcohol, but with these dark berries like black berries and black current too. Soy and gunpowder. A complex collaboration between the dry notes and the slight sweet fruity notes. Licorice and vanilla too. Not sweet in the sugary way that i recall Mikkeller Black to be. A very big experience, that i have been waiting quite some time for!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours blacj with beige head. Aroma of whisky, roasted, licorice, wood and raisins. Flavour is very burnt malt, whisky, licorice and some alcohol. Wow, this is some extreme beer and maybe not as good as the Islay and Buffalo versions.

Aftertaste: coffee and chocolate malt with a strange barrel taste maybe the tequila. Dry sensation.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
375 ml bottle.
Pours a dark brown, almost black colour with a beige head, which fades quickly. Aroma is very extreme; salty licorice, mudcake, smoked wood, booze, pine needles and tequila. Very heavy and extreme flavour as well; loads and loads of salty licorice, bitterness, caramel sweetness, burnt bread, roasted malts, tequila, booze, burnt coffee and cigar. Not too sweet at all, as everything else runs over it. Full bodied, oily mouthfeel and extremely long, lingering, warming and quite bitter finish. Numbs your tongue. It’s like liquified Fisherman’s Friend (licorice version) with shitloads of alcohol really. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing. I was hoping tequila to be much more present, but maybe they’ll release a tequila-only edition some day.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
0,375l bottle as gift from Denmark. Dark, ruby colored beer with small, frothy, light brown head. Interesting odor with the unmistakable marks of the barrel maturing, but it also has some caramel and alcohol flavour. Surprisingly strong aroma. Huge alcohol flavour, caramel, herbs and spices, oily and a bit resiny. Many different flavours, but the barrel maturing turned these different flavours into an extremely intensive and complex aroma. Alcoholly sweet taste. Creamy texture, medium to full body, average carbonation. Dry, complex aftertase. Very interesting beer, which has the unique feeling of barrel aging. It’s intensive and alcoholly, but mature.

4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours black with foamy tan head. Smells of roasted malts, buttered popcorn, and a little chocolate/toffee. Tastes of bitter, coffee, oak, chocolate flavor, and lasting bitter on the tongue. Low carbonation and thick mouth feel. Satisfying beer.
