COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The sixth edition of the De Proef Brewmasterís Collaboration Series is our first blended beer. Legendary brewer, Alan Sprints of Hair of the Dog joins Dirk Naudts at De Proef to create this unique bottle conditioned beer. Flanders Fred is a blend of Flanders-sourced lambic with a collaboratively-brewed version of the famous Hair of the Dog Fred. The result is a deep golden ale topped with a creamy off white head. The nose is complex with notes of lemon, pine, tropical fruits and spice. The palate is rich and layered with toffee, apricot and almond, balanced by some green apple, a hoppy bitterness and barnyard funk. Please enjoy Flanders Fred with food and friends. This beer should pair very well with many cheeses, roasted vegetables and grilled meats. We believe this bottle will continue to evolve beautifully over the next few years, adding a subtle blending of the flavors.

Bottle. Opaque amber pour with an off white head. Not getting much aroma wise. Mildly sour, with brett, green apple, biscuit, and malty characteristics. Itís definitely not a "traditional" Flanderís Red for sure. Kinda of a bastardized Frankensteinish version but still not all together repulsive. Itís more a kin to a wreck on the side of the freeway that intrigues you. Average body and mouthfeel.

On tap at Kraftwork. Nice tart aroma with oak and mild tart Flanders red notes. Dark orange-amber with no head. Medium body with medium carbonation. Nice mild sour amber ale with oak and medium bitter notes. Light bitter finish with mild bitter oaky tart after.

July 31, 2016 - bottle at HOTD, 2016 vintage. Clear golden pour with lots of head. Aroma was light fruit, sweetness and mild tartness. Taste was consistent with the aroma and nicely balanced, very easy to drink.

Draft at Mekong Restaurant. Poured a kind of ruby orange amber color with a small, wispy head. Aroma was lots of tart cherry character, very light sweetness. Some light stonefruits, cherry character. Funky, light crisp tartness to it.

Sampled on draft at Zenoís in State College this beer poured a hazy amber color with a small foamy white head. The aroma was sourish with notes of pineapple and soy sauce. The flavor was sour and chalky with pineapple and soy sauce. Long finish. Medium body. Ok.

750 ml corked n caged bottle- Pours extremely hazy orange with a medium off white head that reduces. Aroma is medium tart, caramel malt, a bit too earthy, fruity. The taste is lacto off the bat, cherries, apples, funky, getting brett, not sure if itís in there, but very dusty books and basement flavors. Medium to soft carbonation, not bubbly at all. Good beer.

Bottle from Julios. Murky cloudy caramel color with lasting head and a little lace. Funky woody cherry caramel bready aroma. Fruity sour cherry caramel woody with out of place herbal bitterness and some toffee in the finish along with mouth-coating old wood. Medium body. Fairly unpleasant. Give me Rodenbach Grand Cru at half the price any day.

Poured from a 32 oz crowler. Aroma is sweet with a medium light honey note. Some light stone fruit notes with some cherry and a touch of tropical fruit. Some caramel with a bit of toasted bread. Light acidity and faint citrus notes. Pours a slightly hazy, copper color with a large, frothy, rocky, light tan head that recedes to a thin film of foam that clumps in the center. Light lacing and no legs. Flavor is moderately acidic with a moderately strong malt profile. Lots of caramel, honey and some lighter toasted bread. Medium light bitterness. Some stone fruit notes and over ripe tropical fruit with bits of cherry. The honey character gives it a strong oxidation note. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, not a good beer. Iím not sure why, but this beer has such a strong a oxidation that really conflicts with the light acidity.
