Calling Double Trouble a "hop showcase" might imply that this brutal 167 IBU monster has your best interests at heart. If your answer to the question, "How much hopping would you like?" is simply "more", this is what you wish for. The malt base and Chico yeast together construct the perfect platform for the multiple additions of so many hop varieties no mere beer label could label them all. Your overwhelmed taste buds will know the feeling.

Tuatara need to be commended for this beer as it is one of the best I have tried. While aggressively hoppy at 167 IBU (which I would contest) it has a smooth sweetness that carries the beer. A little alcoholic on the finish, but I am nitpicking on a fine specimen of a beer. Extra points given for 3D glasses that accompany the beer.

Bottle @ derat, small sample. Clear orange to amber color, short head. Aroma of grapefruit, tropical fruit, some pine, sweet caramel and toffee. Quite sweet in taste, soft to medium bitterness. Caramel, toffee. Bit too sweet for my liking.

500mL bottle from Slowbeer. BB 03/03/2016 Pours an orange gold beer, creamy white head. Hops drive the nose, typically NZ affair - lovely ripe tropical fruits -guavas, paw paws, papayas - leafy herbs, dried herbs, earthy herbs - good measure of caramel malts. Big beer; full creamy, syrupy, resiny, oily, lovely really. Just resiny, sticky, lots of ripe tropicals, tangy citrus, dried herbal hops, doses of caramel - long finish , plenty of bitterness but well balanced. Great beer!

Citrus fruity noise. Hazy bronze Amber colour. Not much of a head when poured from borrow. Quite easy drinking despite its nature.

Bottle. Beer Stop, Dronfield. A month off it’s BBD. Very hazy, reddy amber. Swirly, lasting, white head. Rich, thick, stewed hop. Minty toffee. Bit of marzipan. Oily herb. Hint of vanilla. Taste is sticky sweet, turning big, herby, punchy bitter. Very chewy and resinous. Palate is all of that. Soft carbonation. Finishes lip sticking sweet, and long, slightly boozy, chewy, resinous bitter. Massively tasty. Half a world away from fresh, but I loved this.

Bottle 500ml New World NZ 11 bucks down to 9!! Huge tropical banana nose bit of caramel and butter, spose thats toffee! First taste is huge really punchy and bitter . Palate gets used to it about half way thru. Big tangy robust flavours of burnt apple and grapefruit, lots going on , felt the abv before i tasted it kinda thing! palate lacks overall weight as i just think theres way too much going on for this to ever be balanced, finish is really quite bitter but its a beast of a beer and one i need to try again. It has the punch to win but not quite the flair of Epic Hop Zombie or Liberty Citra.

Here we go with a Kiwi wonder! Slightly hazy golden, cream medium head. Nose is sweet malts and hops. This beer has lots of hops. Loads. And they merge wonderfully with a malty and (tropical) fruity taste. Make you ask for more. Glad it came in a 500ml bottle!
