COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Calling Double Trouble a "hop showcase" might imply that this brutal 167 IBU monster has your best interests at heart. If your answer to the question, "How much hopping would you like?" is simply "more", this is what you wish for. The malt base and Chico yeast together construct the perfect platform for the multiple additions of so many hop varieties no mere beer label could label them all. Your overwhelmed taste buds will know the feeling.

Tuatara need to be commended for this beer as it is one of the best I have tried. While aggressively hoppy at 167 IBU (which I would contest) it has a smooth sweetness that carries the beer. A little alcoholic on the finish, but I am nitpicking on a fine specimen of a beer. Extra points given for 3D glasses that accompany the beer.

Clear light orange-copper. White thin head with big bubbles. Smells of piney hop, crystal malt, maple syrup, light spice. Tastes of resin piney hop, light lemony soapy frothy finish. Body is medium-to-thick, slick, gently frothy. Resinous. Crisp malt aroma is nice. Big, bitter but still very drinkable.

500ml bottle from Hop Leaf at home. Slightly hazy orange golden pour. Aroma is ripe mango and strong resin hops. Taste follows - big rich tropical fruity and resinous hops. Big booziness and bitterness that lasts. One of the best DIPAs - a standard to which others should be compared. Lasting boozy warmth. Very big but alarmingly drinkable. Definitely get again.

Golden and mostly clear. Aroma is citrus and pine, not heavily fruity, and slightly herbal. Big bitterness and cloyingly sweet. Too much in every regard.

Huge aroma and huge taste. from the hops to the malt to the alcohol. They’ve done a great job to make such a balanced tasting beer which is 9% and 167 IBU!

500ml bottle pours a yellow Amber color with a bit of head. Intense hops. A lot of citrus that lingers. Solid double IPA.

Aroma: resin, pine, caramel malts, citrus fruits. Appearance: hazy gold, big, frothy, white head. Taste: heavy sweet. Palate: sweets continue, resin, turning quite bitter in the finish. Overall: excellent IIPA, fantastic hops in both aroma and palate. Pint at CBR2015, Shoreditch.

65 cl bottle, Calgary, AB, Canada via Coop. Slightly hazy amber. Thin beige head. Strong pine resin aroma with some lime citrus. More pine on the first sip somewhat chalky texture/afertaste with a long, cloying finish.

Tap at Craft Beer Rising (London, 19 February 2015) Shows a cloudy whiskey brown. The nose shows mostly a lot of sweet malts with some notes of resinous pine and cannabis in the background. The palate shows very light carbonation, a slight spiciness & heat in the middle, a very good malt back bone and a moderate to high bitterness.

500ml bottle from New World Fendalton, Christchurch. Pours amber with a small head. Impressive sweet nose, foreshadowing what the gums and the tongue will get to taste... Rich, full taste. Sweet, a bit of fruit, hiding the 167 IBU until the very end of the lasting finish where the bitterness for a moment says "Hi, I’m here as well" and disappears again. Very tasty.
