14/IV/14 - 33cl bottle from... ? @ home - BB: VI/15 (2014-367)

Dark brown to black beer, small irregular beige head, little stable, adhesive. Aroma: very peated, bit sweet, caramel, dried fruits, chocolate, mocha, bit fruity. MF: soft carbon, medium to full body. Taste: sweet start, lots of caramel, mocha, then all the peat flavours come out, smoky. Aftertaste: lots of alcohol, milk chocolate, peat, bitter hops, caramel, mocha, some coffee, smoky, ashes, more alcohol burning the throat.

Bottle from ABC Beers, Den Haag. Poured a deep mahogany colour with a frothy tan head. The aroma is strong boozy alcohol liqourice, dark chocolate and a little band aid. The flavour is strong bitter with a rich smooth alcoholic liqourice bitter palate and long smooth bitter finish. Full bodied with soft carbonation and a silky smooth oily mouthfeel. The whisky dominates but in a good way. Everything is nicely balanced for a BA impy stout. A heart warming beer and a winner from Emelisse.

Bottle enjoyed at home. Pours a ruby-shaded dark brown to black body. Fully diminishing light brown bubble head. Bold peaty nose. Balanced by a gentle malt-sweetness, rounded roastiness and some fine floral and fruity tones. Big body. Smooth and juicy in the mouth. Taste is as peaty as it get. Yet not overdone, nicely balanced by a sweet, chocolatey malt base. Balancing bitterness, some fine fruit and oak notes. Not fully balanced, but I don’t care. Utterly complex with good drinkability. Very well crafted.

Black, no head. Aroma of Rauchbier and Whisky. Similar taste, conbined with bitterness. Long aftertaste of Whisky, bitterness, dark coffee and alcohol. But why not buy a proper Scotch instead?

Bottle at Cardinal. Black, heavily peated smoke taste. Some sweetness, a lot of Scotch whisky. Share a bottle - 0.33 l is too much in one go.

Fra flaske på Cardinaltreff jan-13: flytende impregnering, et must for trebåtentusiaster. Nærmer seg brudd på røykeloven. Et øl med stort særpreg og stolt personlighet. Turtallet varmer i magen.

330 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 11%, EBU 75. Pitch black colour, low and coarse beige head. Strong aroma of peated whisky, oak, iodine and sea air - and of course roasted malts. Moderately sweet flavour, plenty of roasted malts and decent hops, but the flavour is first and foremost dominated by peat and iodine from the whisky barrel. Not really my favourite flavours. Some warmth from the alcohol.
