COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
At a Glance The Beer: A fresh track, Track 8 is a spicy monster — A base of Judgment Day aged in freshly emptied bourbon barrels then spiked with liberal additions of cinnamon stick and dried chili pepper. ABV: 13.7% Released: August 18, 2012 Liner Notes We’ve never released a Bourbon Barrel version of our Judgment Day. So we thought it might be interesting to take the base beer for Cuvee de Tomme age in first fill Bourbon Barrels and let mother nature take over. Of course, because this is a Rock and Roll inspired Box Set beer, we couldn’t just leave well enough alone. Upon sampling the base beer, it became apparent that the raisins used to brew the base beer were going to drive the flavor bus of this beer. The conversations turned to Oatmeal Raisin cookies and the essence of a freshly baked treat. So we added some cinnamon sticks to the barrels and threw in some dried chiles as well. At 13.70 ABV this beer has amazing depth of flavor and presents a unique drinking experience for consumers who may be seeking enlightenment on Judgment Day.

UPDATED: SEP 4, 2012 Dark pour with razor thin off white head. Nose was one of the best for my tastes with super over the top coconut, spices, and dark fruit. Taste is also heavy on coconut but the base beer shines through nicely with dark fruit and raisins. Judgement Day is one of my favorite LA regulars and I am a huge fan of strong coconut flavors in bourbon barrel aged beers. This was a home run for me.

12.7 oz bottle. Dark brown with beige foam. Nose is raisin, bourbon, toffee and cinnamon with a chili sting. Medium body with fuzzy carb. Taste is bourbon, raisin, muted cinnamon and chili adding slight heat. Finishes slightly bitter with wood. Everything works together quite nicely without any ingredient overpowering; the alcohol as subtle as the spice.

Bottle via craftshack shared at RBSDADG 2014. Pours a deep brown body with light lacing. Aroma is cinnamon cookies, oak, sweet molasses, rich barrel character and vanilla. Mouthfeel is medium with notes of cinnamon, spices, faint chili, oak barrel, chocolate, molasses and holiday cookies. Really interesting and a wonderful treat.

Dark brown hazy pour with long lasting beige head. Nose is cinnamon, brown sugar, bourbon, vanilla, plums, dark fruits, toast. Flavor is bourbon, plums, dark fruits, cinnamon, clove, toast, caramel. Finish isn’t too boozy, smooth yet warming, with a dry mouthfeel. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from craftshack opens with a pfftttt confirming this one has carbonation. pours plum, thin light khaki head. Nose has pitted fruit, cinnamon, bourbon, vanilla. Taste is more cinnamon based, bourbon and pitted fruits still present. Big burly body, has a silky way about it. Excellent.

The base might be a Belgian quad, but this is about as far from the style as you can get. Thick and boozy, the bourbon plays a pretty big role but doesn’t give off too much heat. lots of raisin and sweetness. There is a hint of cinnamon and pepper, but much more subtitle than hunah or abraxas.

UPDATED: JUL 10, 2014 Immediately greeted by bourbon on the nose. Followed by big roasted malts, toffee, spices (assuming from the chiles), cinnamon, some oak and vanilla coming from the barrels. In the light, it appears a dark black with a brownish magenta foam rim and subtle alcohol legs. Taste is Immediate chile spice and cinnamon followed by big toffee, oak, raisins, nougat, molasses, candy sweetness, slick malt syrup and some faint barrel wood. Finish is residual chile spiciness which works well with the heat of the bourbon/alcohol content. Another home-run from lost abbey. Really rich and well balanced. A dark fruit forward beer. A+ rating.

Not a true quad per se, but incredibly good. Barrel-aging done right -- infusing the beer with aging goodness without being too heavy. Nicely carbonated, and the added fruit notes are present and perfectly in balance. However, the 13.7% is overkill. Too much alcohol heat going on. Either age it for a long time, or be forewarned. This would’ve been perfect at 10-11% ABV.

(375ml bottle) clear deep brown, lasting fine tan bubbles. Nose of rum raisins, brown sugar, bourbon, cream, light alcohol. Taste of raisin, alcohol, toasted brown sugar, coconut, vanilla, delicious.
