At a Glance The Beer: A fresh track, Track 8 is a spicy monster — A base of Judgment Day aged in freshly emptied bourbon barrels then spiked with liberal additions of cinnamon stick and dried chili pepper. ABV: 13.7% Released: August 18, 2012 Liner Notes We’ve never released a Bourbon Barrel version of our Judgment Day. So we thought it might be interesting to take the base beer for Cuvee de Tomme age in first fill Bourbon Barrels and let mother nature take over. Of course, because this is a Rock and Roll inspired Box Set beer, we couldn’t just leave well enough alone. Upon sampling the base beer, it became apparent that the raisins used to brew the base beer were going to drive the flavor bus of this beer. The conversations turned to Oatmeal Raisin cookies and the essence of a freshly baked treat. So we added some cinnamon sticks to the barrels and threw in some dried chiles as well. At 13.70 ABV this beer has amazing depth of flavor and presents a unique drinking experience for consumers who may be seeking enlightenment on Judgment Day.

UPDATED: SEP 4, 2012 Dark pour with razor thin off white head. Nose was one of the best for my tastes with super over the top coconut, spices, and dark fruit. Taste is also heavy on coconut but the base beer shines through nicely with dark fruit and raisins. Judgement Day is one of my favorite LA regulars and I am a huge fan of strong coconut flavors in bourbon barrel aged beers. This was a home run for me.

375, corked and baled. Pours a jet black with a dense and creamy burnt tan head that fades quickly away. Big sweet nose, tons of raisins, followed by apricots and cinnamon. Creamy, somewhat thin body with some lively carb. Hot attack, a little boozy, showing raisins, cinnamon, apricots, and vanilla. Very sweet. Body is a bit thin, booze shows hot, and flavor leans to the sweet,

Pours a very dark brown with small head. Oatmeal raisin cookies with an earthy peppery kick on the nose. Rich chocolate, vanilla, molasses, raisins, oatmeal, slight chilli all precisely balanced. Bit of alcoholic note on the back but nothing near it’s 13%. Low carbonation, medium mouthfeel.

Aroma is bourbon, vanilla, sweet toffee and caramel malt, dates, figs and prunes with nutmeg and cinnamon. Flavor is sweet malt, nutmeg and cinnamon, brown sugar, vanilla and bourbon, light oak notes and a sweet finish. Full body and light carbonation.

At a tasting, thanks DSG, bubbly light brown head, opaque extremely dark brown color, aroma of coconut, vanila and wood, with a hint of dark fruit, and some light spiciness coming through, flavor of coconut and bourbon with some chillie spiciness, dark bitter chocolate and apricot jam, very sweet but not cloying. The bourbon character is much too strong at start but allows other traits to come through in time, still a bit too one dimensional though quite enjoyable.

(Bottle @ VilleValla Pub, Linköping, Dec 15 2014) Pours a deep brown with basically no head. Aroma has dark malt, caramel, raisins, dark fruit, vanilla/oak, cinnamon, moderate bourbon. On the palate, rich dark malts bring caramel, stewed dark fruit, a hint of chocolate. Raisins quite prominent, a decent helping of vanilla and bourbon in the middle with cinnamon. Malt sweetness lingering in the finish and the chilies build up to a pleasant, moderate spice, level, cinnamon and a touch of bourbon. Medium-full body, lightly creamy with no carb. Gorgeous, I really like the integration of cinnamon and chili and the bourbon barrel is held to a supporting role. Way too drinkable for the ABV, interesting and yet has no rough edges.
