4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle from Beer Ritz, Leeds. Pours an inky black, small ring of coffee brown head. Aroma is beautiful - mocha, deep raisin and sultana notes, plums, coffee and chocolate. Taste is fantastic as well: rich chocolate, hop spice and coffee bitterness up front, with the dark fruits deep under there as well. A really nice clovey/cinnamon kinda thing, as well. Big, flavourful coffee aftertaste that lasts for years. Full, viscous body, flat with a little CO2 sparkle. Given Arbor’s inconsistency, it’s surprising that this is seriously, seriously good.

330ml bottle many thanks to fonefan for this beer gift. Shared with Finn. Coal black body with a deep ruby shade. Bubbly, low, tan-coloured head. Mild roasted, dark malts on the nose, herbal dry. Mid-sweet dark chocolate flavours joined by notes of coffee, and bittersweet dark fruits to a lingering finish. Full bodied. Strong beer with warming alcohol burning down the throat. Very nice sipper (Tromsø 27.11.2013).

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle, BB yesterday (01/11/13) apparently, though I’m sure this would age well over the next few years. Pours a viscous black, never threatens even the smallest head. Smell - oil, roast, marzipan, whisky. Body is smooth and quite big, really coats the mouth. Taste is chocolate and ash, dates, salty, some astringency and bitter tannins in the finish. Quite a hoppy impy, despite the age. Alcohol well hidden. Sticky and drying. Good. I’m on a roll tonight.

Bottle cheers to Leighton. Thanks dude! Pours black as with a small tan head which quickly disappears. Nose shows huge ash and tar. Loads of burnt and musky driven tones - liquorice, molasses, tyre, smoke, cigar, robust roast. As it warms some citrus driven hops come into play. Works very nicely. Taste shows heavy burnt/ashy tones. Loads of cigar and humidor notes with some heavy citric backing. If someone told me this was a big ass imperial black IPA then I would probably see the logic in that. Despite the cigar tray undertones, it really is quite hoppy. Damn solid stuff. Works very nicely and is damn lengthy. Would age superbly
