4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a dark reddish amber with a tall, creamy beige head that has great retention and leaves decent lacing. Huge, fruity aroma, lots of cherry, a hint of cranberry, light sweet bread spice, a little oak, sweet biscuit, hints of cereal grain. Some apple comes out in the aroma as it warms and the spicy notes become a little more noticeable. Great cherry and light cranberry flavors and tartness up front, cereal, light herbal and sweet bread/pie spice come in shortly after, some nice woody oak there as well, as it warms the apple comes out some more and the tartness and acidity are somewhat stronger, with something of a lactic or acetic feel to the acidity when it warms more. Liight to medium body with a light, blanketing and somewhat sharp carbonation and somewhat creamy, slightly sticky feel, leading to a slightly more dry finish with an acidic tingle. Amazing, easily one of my favorite New Glarus beers and one of my favorite fruit beers, hopefully it has a decent shelf life, or they decide to make it a year round release.

I don’t have lots of experience with fruit beers. I really enjoyed this, helped I’m sure by the fact that I love cherries and cranberries. Fruity as you’d expect, and tart as you’d expect. A bit too carbonated for my tastes, but still, this was a great beer.

Hazy purple maroon in color... Aroma of apple, cranberry, cherry fruit candy... Almost medicinal aroma... Flavor is moderately tart, fruits are all noticeable, cherry, cranberry, apple, finish is wild fermented cheese, slightly spicy on the palate... Exciting idea, enjoyable

Wonderous fruit and sour fruit aroma, cherry cranbeery and slight green apple. Flaqvor is perfect tartness and sourness with the fruits letting you know they are purely evident. Sparkling everywhere from aroma flavor and mouthfeel. A+++++

Bottle from the mighty Todd! It had been a while since I had anything from New Glarus, so having the pleasure of trying 3-4 new ones is quite a treat and this one is no exception. Tart fruit skin, light funk, stewed berries, pie crust, ethereal wood dance around a juicy, lively carbonated body... not to the extent of say cider... but there is a pleasant bite to it. Tart cranberry with spicy apple dances around in the front... nice plays between sweet, spicy, earthy and tart... very pleasing bready/tart/spicy finish. Being a big fan of both the Cran-bic and the Enigma, this is a very exciting beer for me to drink as I find elements of both here, perhaps a bit of the Belgian Red as well. If only it could exist all the time and outside of WI, but then again I think the last thing any NG fan would want if for them to be spread too thin and sacrifice their high quality/nuance. Top notch and another great example of what balance can bring.

750 ml purchased at New Glarus, and served with rhubarb crisp. Pours a beautiful clear dark fruit color that shifts with lighting. Cherry red, dark orange, slight crimson, covered in a lasting off white head that fades to moderate lacing. Aroma is sweet and inviting: cranberries, apples and cherry complexity. Flavor is same with an intense balanced sweetness that matches with the rhubarb crisp perfectly. Another great New Glarus fruit beer.

Bottle from unknown at de Garde tasting. Pours a reddish orange, little to no head. Aroma very fruity, some mulling spices. Body medium-tart, lots of spice, lingering tartness. Yikes, spice lovely.

Smells like apple cider. Sharp soda-like carbonation that is semi-foamy. Taste is pretty complex. I get apple cider up front, cranberries, and cherry (no surprises with those three). Aftertaste is about 10 seconds and you sometimes get a slight bit of throat warmth. This tastes like a better, more complex version of the Apple Ale.

On draft at the brewery. Fruity, sweet and lightly tart aroma, lots of berryish fruit cherry, floral tones and faint honey, perhaps some slight woodiness in the background. Lightly hazy garnet in color with a sparse, fine, fading head. Flavor profile is quite sweet and fruity, some slight tartness with more berry and cherry flavors and some faint mustiness. Sort of like fermented berry syrup. Some biscuit/cracker in the background but the sweet fruitiness is dominant, and only a faint amount of tartness is present here. Smooth but well-carbonated feel and slightly sticky, body is medium-full with a touch of warmth after the swallow. Like fruit juice-beer.

Thanks Steve! Simplement fantastique!
