COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Saddlebag Series No. 1.
Brandy’s Imperial Sundae is a hand-crafted Imperial Porter with rich, dark, malty flavors that combine with hints of vanilla, chocolate, and a mild finish of American Oak. The beer starts sweet and smooth, but at 9.1% Alcohol by Volume and 40 IBU’s, packs a wallop when you least expect it… just like Brandy herself.

First beer tasted at GABF on the recommendation of a volunteer in line with us. Probably my favorite of the evening. Like a turtle brownie soaked in booze. Amazingly smooth and satisfying like a dessert.

Bottle thanks to soonerchamps. Pours very dark brown with fizzy tan head. Nose and taste of cream soda, fresh vanilla, vanilla extract, nutmeg, oak, dark malt, sweet chocolate and syrup. Body a little light for an imperial. Vanilla is a bit dominant.

Bottle. Pours a murky brown with a brown head that dissipates quickly to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of vanilla supported by chocolate and just a hint of sweet dark malts. Flavor starts with sweet with vanilla and is joined by chocolate with some strawberry that comes out in the finish.

bottle shared by derek, thanks! pours near black w mahogany edges and a brown head that dissipates to the edge. nose is loads of vanilla and syrup but literally smells like you are smelling a bottle of vanilla extract. taste is that same powerful vanilla note but with more chocolate bitter malts to cut the sweetness and even a very faint touch of fruit finish to round out the full ’sundae’ effect. very tasty and well executed.

Bottle at the BA Buffalo bottle share. Mad props to Merc, you troller of stouts for blinding us with this selection. Pours dark mahogany tan hue with foamy tan head with good retention and gentle lacing. Nose of vanilla and chocolate. Taste is sweet and crime brûlée like with additions of vanilla. Chocolate shows up on the finish with oak. Body full but silky smooth. What a wonderfully beer.

Sample at GABF 10/11/2012, thanks to Bluemeow76 for assistance with note-taking. Murky brownish-black pour with a medium foamy tan head and small patches of lacing. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt and nuts. Medium to full body with flavors of milk chocolate, roasted malt and bourbon. The finish is bourbon-infused vanilla/chocolate. Good overall.

First sampled at a food and beer pairing at Hensley’s. Next I found Brandy’s again appearing at Beerfest 8 - I hammered enough shot-sized samples I barely recalled the flavors. However, I did remember making a mental note that it tasted like ice cream and was so yummy I had to watch for the countdown of it’s release! There was not enough of the initial samplings to satisfy my cravings for this brew. I became a fan from the first sip. Blackish brown pour from 22-ounce bottle into Beerfest 8 / KRXO pint glass (Thanks, Kelso!). The brackish pour leaves a thick tan head that slowly dissipates into sticky lacing that melts into a swirl of foamy bubbles and a ring of tan foam. Aroma of bitter dark chocolate, sweet vanilla ice cream, and smoky oak barrel. Initial flavor of bitter dark chocolate, vanilla ice cream, molasses and dark fruit that slowly fades into a smoky, oaky finish. Hints of oak-aged brandy and cognac are evident, and after a bit of additional "sampling", there are notes of some additional heat and kick to the finish after a few sips. The biggest downfall is the knowledge that it is a limited release and won’t be around long enough to enjoy thoroughly and often. Please add this one to your already proven stable of permanent brews.
