So, what you have here is an imperial sweet stout aged in cognac barrels. It tastes like finding money in your coat pocket with hints of your bag being the first one out of the carousel at baggage claim. It’s good.

Appearance - BLACK, thick brown head, chocolate lacing
Aroma - Coffee, brownies, vanilla, wood, raisins
Taste - Fruit, molasses, mocha, vanilla, oak, nuts, liquor

Thank you Jordan for this exquisite elixir! This beer is almost chewy, full of brandy-soaked dark fruits and soft coffee undertones. You can taste cognac in every sip, but it’s so perfectly balanced... One of Cigar City’s best. There’s no doubt that this will age wonderfully.

Sampled from bottle @ "Het is allemaal de schuld van Koen" tasting. Opaque pitch black color, medium sized quite quickly diminishing brown head. Aroma is malts, sweetish, honey, molasses, lightly sweetish liquorice. Taste malts, sweetish, sweetish liquorice, some alcohol sweetness, cognac BA provides some sweetness as well. Quite thick oily texture, full body, soft carbonation. Nice.

Great share with Brian and the boys in Boca. Deep brown pour with tan eroding head. Teh aroma is big roasted malts, graham cracker, vanilla, cognac, wood, dark fruits, and spiced meats. The taste is very flavorful with the roasted malts up front, middle is dark fruits and spiced meats with vanilla, finish is more of the cognac flavors and dark chocolate. Full body, chewy. Mild carb. Very good.

October 9, 2015 - bottle from the brewery back in 2012. Black pour with dark tan head that faded quickly, but left the glass stained dark brown. Aroma was sweet malt and cognac. Taste had the sweetness from the malt, but it was nicely balanced by the alcohol and fruit from the cognac. Palate was smooth, but full bodied. Opened to celebrate finding out about my annual bonus that was much bigger than expected!

Pitch black pour with a beautiful dense espresso crema head. Nose has sweet booze soaked fruit. Some licorice and creamy dark malts. Impressive taste of smoky malts and coco, some barrel, some rich dark fruit. Really nice. Sweet malts galore. Long sweet, sticky roast finish. Big thanks to Morten and Svend for rollin out big guns.

750 mL bottle shared with ebone1988. The pour is a used motor oil viscous pitch black with a medium/dark brown head that falls to a thick collar, leaving no lace in its descent. The aroma is great. There is a heavy hitting sweet malt with a touch of light booziness. The back end produces a little molasses or brown sugar with a nice cognac sweetness to wrap it all up. The flavor is really good as well. There is a lovely sweetness up front and then the roast really takes over. There is a light booziness that is detectable underneath the dark fruits. The cognac keeps a little sweetness throughout, and I'm liking how it doesn't impose other barrel flavors. The mouth feel is incredibly thick and viscous. It's softly carbonated and carries a wonderful thickness all through the back. The aftertaste is lingeringly sweet with a nice malt backbone ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle shared with koleminer20. Aroma is sweet, frosting, malt, chocolate, coffee, barrel, cognac, maybe brown sugar. Appearance is black, brown head and very thick. Taste sweet, cocoa, dark fruit, barrel, roasted yet nearly burnt malt, the aftertaste is burned. Otherwise barrel is also prevalent without much booze. Mouthfeel is real thick, great carbonation and the flavor lasts. Overall, a very very enjoyable offering.

Not sure how I don’t have notes for this one. Poured a black snifter with a reddish head. Nose was dark chocolates, rich and bitter with sweet cognac aromas and smooth caramel. Flavor followed with plenty of smooth cognac paired with coffee and chocolates again. It was seriously one of the better beers I’ve had in my opinion.

Bottle shared @ Bottle @ Ølkonsortiets sommerfest 2015. Thanks Svend and Morten for bringing this! Pours motor oil black with a brown head. Aroma of chocolate, sweet cognac notes, dark fruits, liquorice, weak smoke, toffee, butterscotch and vanilla. Taste is sweet and has weak savory notes in it. Lots of vanilla, chocolate, dark fruits, sweet cognac and almost some weak cherry notes to it (might be from the Cognac). Another black hit in my heart from CCB!

Bottle @ ØlKonsortiet summer shananigans. Classic Cigar City imp stout look, jet black with a huge dark brown head. instant 5 in appearance. Loads of roasted malts on the nose, intense roastiness, soy, liquorice and notes of fruity cognac. Taste is full on roasted malts, bitter chocolate notes, a bit of very nice sourness from the intense roastiness, which gives notes of acidic coffee, topped off with slight hints of the cognac. Barrel aging not very in your face, but leaves plenty of room for the complexity of the malts. Not as sweet as I feared, this is a lovely beer!
