Mikkeller Bar at Black Sensation. On tap. Pours black motor oil with a big dark brown head. Smells of dark chocolate and cognac. Sweet with an explosion of aromas... Dark chocolate, dried, dark fruits, resiny hops, alcohol and cognac. Also some roasted malts. Very full bodied with an oily and creamy mouthfeel. Soft carbonation. Sweet and dry finish.

Woh, pure booze coming off this as I pour and bring it close to my nose, cognac heat. Closer up, it’s ashily burnt, raw and charcoaly. Black, brief brown head, looks like obsidian in the glass. Flat palate, slick and oily, carbonation nowhere. Rich burnt roast taste, fortunately not aggressively astringent.Leaves cocoa-powder on the tongue in the finish. Some burntness, and some alcoholic vapours. A bit of a mess, but the glass is finishable. Glad it’s shared 3-ways though,

250ml bottle. Pitch black color. Small to medium head, stays. Sweet, roast, butterscotch, toffee, biscuits and dusty in aroma. Biscuits, roast, dried toffee, almonds, chocolate cake and dusty in taste. Long lasting dusty sweet roast in aftertaste. Taste is bit weird. With every sip it gets more and more boozy. Sweet and boozy brew.

A heavyweight contender, had on tap at Mikkeller Bar Now enjoying this small potent 12% bottle at home What I noticed is the thick black pour w no head and the residue on the glass was an orange hue. The aroma is sweet and fine spirits A sipper une grande. Unagi on the tongue

December 11, 2015. Bottle,
Pitch black with a small dense dark brown head. Aroma is dark chocolate, cognac, dark sugars, licorice, wood, soy, notes of baked pears, figs and prunes. Taste is bitter and salty with a light sweetness. Finish is roasted bitterness, dark chocolate, coffee, some ash and wood, salty soy and licorice notes, hints of sweet prunes and molasses, lasting salty and bitter roasted notes. Full bodied, very thick and viscous, almost flat carbonation.
Quite intense imperial stout with a quite salty and bitter finish. A bit too viscous which lowers the drinkability.

Pitch black and completely opaque with a two finger frothy mocha head that very slowly settles into a thick, lasting ring. Very good retention for style and ABV, coating the glass with streaks of soapy lacing. Very impressive looking. Sweet boozy aroma with a really nice barrel character that’s decently integrated into the stout characteristics. Lots of spirit/cognac along with some bourbon, toasted coconut, marshmallow and subtle charred oak/toothpick. Little bit of vanilla and the spirit really comes through without obliterating the stout characteristics. Underneath, there’s a nice balance of roasted and silky malt sweetness. Gourmet coffee beans with bitter dark chocolate, oatmeal and burnt toast. Also some dessert-like sweetness with caramel, hazelnut and chocolate cake. Nice complexity and balance in the nose of this beer. Slightly chewy/viscous full body with a flavor profile that’s very similar to the aroma. Barrel is more subtle but the flavors are there and nicely integrated into the base. Very nice cognac/spirit flavor without being overly boozy or overpowering. Subtle dry oak along with coconut and vanilla bean. Slight creamy texture with the malt profile a bit weaker than expected. Subtle roast countered by very strong sweetness and boozy heat in the finish. Somewhat burnt dry malt flavor with deeply roasted coffee and roasted nut but the sweetness counters. Light chocolate, dark fruit, caramel and burnt sugar along with boozy heat in the finish. A bit hot for my liking but the high ABV is relatively well masked. Easier to drink after it warms. Nice barrel flavor that doesn’t dominate letting the other flavors come through. Decent mouthfeel but it’s too sweet and needs more roast for balance. Otherwise, this is another solid barrel aged beer from Mikkeller.

By George this a great impy stout. Very viscous and it hugs the glass with velvety goodness. Length on the palate lingers - one to be savoured.

(Undated Nøgne Ø 250ml bottle from Mikkeller and Friends) Pours inky black with a few tiny pale brown bubbles and no lace. Needs some air to open up. Aroma of chocolate sauce, molasses, dark fruit vinousness, cognac, liquorice, light oxidation, oak and smoky char. Palate is intensely concentrated with notes of dark fruit, cognac, chocolate, dark malt, toffee, liquorice, vanilla, lots of wood. Quite sweet at first, finish is a bit drier though with charred, smoky wood and ash, brandy heat, roast cacao and vanilla prominent. Bit of burn on the aftertaste despite at least a decent bit of age on the bottle. Thick and viscous with almost no carbonation. As you’d expect from George, this is really rich and intense stuff. Even 250ml is almost a challenge to drink. Not sure this is quite as good as the regular or bourbon for me, but I think it is also a bit more aged.
