4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Draft at Burgundian. So, the story behind this beer is that it was brewed with honey from the farm of the owners dad and then put in a local distillery whiskey barrel for around 5 month. Pours a very dark brown, almost porter looking with a creamy light tan head and sticky lacing. Rich notes of brown sugar, tobacco, caramel, figs, raisins, vanilla...sweet, sticky, boozey, but super balanced for what this beer is. Tight prickly carbonation with a full silky mouth feel. Brown sugar, tobacco, leather notes up front...solid char and boozey vanilla notes, but the base beer really stands up and is holding its own. So rich and super drinkable for 11%. One of the best barleywines I have had in a few years.
