A reddish brown trappist ale, malty and fruit, featuring a 3 week secondary fermentation. This ale has a full, pale yellow head. The bouquet is full of esters and fruitiness. Notes of ripe banana predominate. The taste is fruity and slightly bitter, with a long, dry finish.

330ml bottle into a tulip. Pours a clear very dark brown, nearly opaque. Topped by a huge billowy off-white head that keeps growing thanks to the abundant carbonation. Some of the best head retention I have every seen. Aroma has lots of dark fruit such as figs and cherries layered on top of wood. Hints of pipe tobacco along with wet grass and hay. A little bit of light cocoa underneath. The flavor really has tons going on. Like in the aroma, dark fruit predominantly up front consisting largely of cherries and figs. A decent woody note is present along with a little bit of must although it nicely compliments the other flavors. Grass comes in next along with a moderate, cleansing bitterness. The beer finishes dry on the palate with bitterness lingering long after all other flavors depart. Overall, a truly complex and amazing beer. There is really so much going on here and the flavors change as the beer warms. One of the classics.

33cl bottle from Carrefours (only EUR1 !). Sour nose, notes of banana and burnt caramel. Brown/ dark red beer with fluffy cream head. It looks still but the mouthfeel is zingy. Aftertaste is burnt malt, banana followed by a late sourness. Alcohol is present throughout.

33 cl bottle@home in trappist glass. Approx 10 degrees C. Pours almost pitch black with a reddish tint and a light brown head. Rather faint aroma of malt, bread and a faint citrussy fruit. Fizzy dark taste - this is a young example with a BBF in August 2016. A slight metallic twist thankfully quickly disappears and the roasted malt and dark dried fruit begins to take over with a nice bitterness in the aftertaste. Now it is showing it’s mettle and the alcohol is kept very nicely in check. Well balanced beer. Look forward to cellaring a bottle of this as I sure it only gets better the next couple of years or five.

Pour is the colour of prune juice with a thin tan cap that fades to a weird crescent moon. Nose is banana bread, raisins, cloves, brown sugar, vinous alcohol (and faint nail polish). Taste-wise this stuff is much drier than I expected. The banana seems to disappear, and I get more grape than raisin, but there’s remarkably little sweetness and just a hint of alcohol. Carbonation is lively/fizzy, finish is lingeringly dry/slightly bitter. Solid but not my fave.

Zapach z butelki to dużo, dużo słodów – głównie tych ciemnych. Piwo jest ciemnobrązowe, mętne. Piana niewysoka, drobna, karmelowa.

20.6.2014. Reddish dark brown. Malty aroma with dark fruits, some caramel. Also taste has caramel and malts, notes of citrus, brown sugar. Warmth of alcohol, maybe a bit of smell as well, as a negative side.
