4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
330ml bottle into a tulip.
Pours a clear very dark brown, nearly opaque. Topped by a huge billowy off-white head that keeps growing thanks to the abundant carbonation. Some of the best head retention I have every seen.
Aroma has lots of dark fruit such as figs and cherries layered on top of wood. Hints of pipe tobacco along with wet grass and hay. A little bit of light cocoa underneath.
The flavor really has tons going on. Like in the aroma, dark fruit predominantly up front consisting largely of cherries and figs. A decent woody note is present along with a little bit of must although it nicely compliments the other flavors. Grass comes in next along with a moderate, cleansing bitterness. The beer finishes dry on the palate with bitterness lingering long after all other flavors depart.
Overall, a truly complex and amazing beer. There is really so much going on here and the flavors change as the beer warms. One of the classics.

0.5 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 1/20
Pours reddish brown, with a light tan head. Aromas are bubble gum, banana and booze. Taste is cloyingly sweet, and barely bitter. The aftertaste ends abruptly. The mouthfeel is slightly thick and the carbonation is low.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Nice over ripe banana, belgian bready-yeast dominant aroma. Some interesting aromatic tones. Hints of dried fruit and dark malt. Fairly heavy carbonation but carries the beer beautifully. Nice medium/full palate. Banana notes in flavor , a little chamomile, bread. Malt is subtle. My only gripe is its a little metallic in the flavor. Dry finish with some soft bitterness.

4.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
In Belgium for work but severely limited in free time, I vowed to try two beers a night. This was the second night. Had it with a friend over cheese and salami at a place near Mannekin pis, out of a 750. Great aroma, smooth and chocolatey and malty. Stood perfectly in the glass under a perfect head. Outstanding smooth taste which grew more complex and satisfying. Lingered on the palate and in the nose. One of the best beers and certainly amoung the finest of the Belgians. Interestingly, I had not been so crazy about this drinking it in the States, this was a 750 bottle not a 330 and it was no doubt very fresh. Worth trying again at home!

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Pours deep red to brown with some sediment. Large beige head dissipates quickly leaving loosely dispersed bubbles. Nose of bread, banana and brown sugar, soft notes of caramel and dried fruit. Lively carbonation with flavours of raisin, clove, soy sauce and subtle leather. Sweet on the tongue, then peppery. Finishes clean though with a slight alcohol bite with sherry notes on the end.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Red brown color with tall quickly disappearing tan head, coarse bubbles, aromas of ripe banana, plum, brown sugar. Second nose has notes of yeast and marzipan. Oily texture. Sweet and slightly bitter in mouth. Good balance: sweet but not overly sweet.

From the bottle. Reddish brown pour with a thick rocky head. Fig prune and brown sugar aroma. Smooth crisp malt with big bitter bite and residual sweetness. Very tasty.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20

Bottle @ home. Bottle pours dark brown with light ruby red edges. Nose is dark bready fruit and multi grain, wheat, nutty cola, fig, plum. Taste is similar with nice creaminess to the mouthfeel, nice finish of dark fruits, cola, mixed dark nuts and whole grain dark bread.
