Almost a perfect beer. Exquisite. The nose is full of bananas, clove, a touch of bubble gum. There is a lot of caramel with some wheat bread. The beer is a deep clear brown until the yeast is poured in which leaves the beer a deep hazy brown with a fizzy tan head that has some viscosity to it, but doesn’t leave much lacing. The taste is again full of banana, clove, and caramel. The beer is full bodied and has a velvet smoothness in the finish.

pours a dark amber from bottle. little head and light carbonation - almost flat. bad bottle maybe? aromas of toffee and molasses. taste of caramel, burnt toffee and some subtle fruit (banana, melon, possibly apple?) burnt flavour stays on the palate with some metal. Due to the apparent complexity, it turns out to be an ok beer, but lack of carbonation is unsettling making it somewhat unpalatable. will have to try another bottle another time

UPDATED: MAY 26, 2012 Ottima birra. Colore ambra scuro, schiuma cremosa. Fruttata all’olfatto e molto saporita in bocca dove appare molto bilanciata. Amaro non troppo persistente ma di facile beva nonostante il grado alcolico non basso.

Schneider Aventinus has a thick, fizzy, light-beige head and an initially clear, brown, bubbly appearance, that becomes cloudy brown upon swishing and pouring in the bottom third of the bottle. Not much lacing is seen with this one. Aroma is unique- cinnamon powder, wheat bread, molasses, spices, and fruit cake. Taste is of cinnamon, spices, nutmeg, yeast, pepper, monkey bread, nuts, and other things I can’t pinpoint. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Aventinus finishes refreshing, crisp, and surprisingly drinkable. Overall, this is an epic, world-class beer. I beg you to try it. RJT

deep amber with one finger head. nice sweetness, slightly fruity, maybe raisin or plum? quite complex and interesting. excellent unique beer.

Pours a wonderful dark amber with a light tan head. Good aroma of raisin, plum, toffee, and vanilla. Very bubblegum. Taste is a touch lesser. Vanilla stands out, the dark fruits are very apparent, and has a sour side as well. Medium body, lots of acidity, with a sour aftertaste. Pretty good recommendation from the bartender.

i was worried this had gone bad as it had a somewhat metallic aroma, but actually turned out to be ok. was tad sweet for my tastes, but a solid example of the style.

Bière brune trouble aux reflets ambrés, coiffée d’une mousse comme on les veut. Au nez, des arômes de de caramel, de purée de bananes, de vanille et d’épices bien dosées s’en dégagent. En bouche, les fruits séchés, tels que les raisins (secs), les figues, les dattes étalent leur palette, avec une touche acidulé, qui s’apparente au levain. Les saveurs restent longtemps en place pour un grand plaisir gustatif. Belle surprise. (230-130512)

Co-worker brought this beer over. He had found it overseas while in the service. This is one of his favorites and I see why. Poors reddish with a creamy head. Taste is of raisons which is sweet with a bit of bitter, spice, fruity finish. Pretty smooth on the palate. This is a really good beer.
