Why would I wake up at 5am and leave manhattan and drive to the end of long island in January? Well for beer of course in particular this one. Pours rich dark brown, with huge milkshake thick head. Great nose of dark fruit and chocolate. I get tastes of chocolate, coffee, earth, plums, roasted barley, and vanilla. Great palate and slight boozy finish. Wonderful.

Bottled. Thx to GT2 for the trade. Pitch black coloured. Dense dark brown head. Aroma of roast, chocolate, light espresso coffee, vague liqourice, coffee, brown sugar. Flavour full of espresso notes, roast, liqouirec, light alcohol, brown sugar, cocoa and chocolate. Medium to full bodied. Ends on a heavy roasted bitterness. Nice. Subtle and well balanced.

Rich and roasty malt flavor with some hops in the finish. One of my favorite stouts, pours thick with a nice tan head. Not thin, not boozy, not over flavored. A classic stout albeit a little on the hoppy side. Ages very well.

Bottle shared by GT2. This is an easy 5 for appearance - inky black snd with a really dark brown head, massive and pillowy. Over all looking the veat that an imperial stout can look. The aroma is so harmoneous - a near perfect balance between an clearly pronounced hoppiness, nice dark chocolate snd a nice estery dark berry sweetness. Roasted malts with nice fruity coffee/espresso component and a slight liquor note. Very impressive aroma. Taste is just as balanced and plays on the same strings as the aroma. Insanely well balanced. Nice chocolate and berry sweetness, nice hoppy and roasty and bitterness and just very very complex with all the same complexities as the nose. Palate is awesome - rather high carbonation, but very gentle and soft, the body is thick and viscous, just about as good as it gets. Amazing stuff!!

750 ml bottle many thanks to phillybeer7779. 2012 vintage bottle # 399. Oily pitch black pour, thick tan head. A really nice looking stout. Raisin, plum, molasses, dark chocolate, prune, and alcohol warmth. Very rich and thick flavors, chewy mouthfeel. A little too hot, but still an excellent stout, could use some age on it.

Bottle 2011. Black pour. Flavor of coffee, chocolate, alcohol burn, and sweet flavors. Fruity like flavor compared to most stouts with a dry finish.
